Presenting yourself and you product at the farmers market.
Comments (28)I love this thread! Mostly because when we started selling at Farmers' Markets we couldn't find anything and felt like we searched everywhere for supplies, techniques, etc. We ended up starting our own little e-commerce site that caters to small-scale vendor selling at Farmers' Markets (link in my signature). A few techniques that worked best for us was: Cleanliness! We always have a clean table and tablecloth. Clear and professional signing! (I've seen people that just write onto a square of brown cardboard) Don't forget to label your products too! Not everyone can tell the difference between straight neck squash and crook neck squash... Keep your pricing simple! I have an article here about pricing. BE FRIENDLY!! (someone already mentioned it but it is worth mentioning again!!). Be proud of your farm, and your produce, and your wares ( or whatever it is your selling) and don't be shy about talking about it, how its grown/made, where you farm/shop is, etc. People are generally curious. And....if they are shipping at a Farmers Market they probably deep down want to break away from their own lives to start their own little farm... Hope this help and happy farming, Jeremy www.elwellsupplies.com A Farmers' Market Supply Store...See More'color coding' the Christmas presents--share your Christmas trick
Comments (14)When my kids were very little (before being able to read), I had different paper for each child. Then my husband and I could relax on the couch and they would know which gifts they could open without us having to read the tag on each one. (Am I lazy or what? ) It also makes wrapping go much faster if you have the gifts presorted by person and don't have to change paper for each gift. In our family, Santa brings each child one big thing and the rest of the gifts are from mom and dad. I buy special paper for the gifts from Santa (usually with pictures of Santa on it). I make gift tags with "special" writing and these gifts are placed under the tree separately for the other gifts. That paper never makes another appearance. Santa also leaves each child a letter about their behavior and accomplishments for the past year. It's getting harder to pull this off each year. Happy Holidays!...See MoreDo you buy your mayo or make it yourself?
Comments (35)As long as you're using a clean implement with the commercial mayonnaise and not introducing a bunch of new bacteria, it's really fine in the fridge for months. They pasteurize the eggs. The sell by dates are the ones they guarantee the product for with the addition of a reasonable amount of time in the pantry for you to open it. That's not for edibility but that they'll guarantee the freshness--it's not rancid, deemulsified, scummy, moldy or otherwise gnarly. If it has been kept clean and cold, and doesn't look, smell or taste funny, it should be fine. The only thing I use sweetened mayonnaise for (I appreciate other people's druthers, just speaking for myself) is broccoli slaw. I like a thick honey poppyseed dressing for that, which has a mayonnaise base. It's not very sweet, but makes a nice counterpoint to the broccoli....See MoreDid you buy yourself a gift for Christmas?
Comments (65)I am notorious for buying one for me, one for you! LOL.. but I didn't buy much for myself this year. The few things I did buy (some chanel makeup, a few clothes) were things I'd have bought anyhow. I put a lot of time into gifts for my family as this has been a tough year for all of us.. and I added some extras to my donations. I sent a huge box of long underwear to an organization a friend works with for the homeless, donated to the American Heart Assoc, a local organization supporting Breast Cancer patients and another supporting research for pancreatic cancer. It's been a rough year for my friends also. I was supposed to have my second eye surgery Dec 17-- so I really scurried to complete my shopping early-- unfortunately, my surgeon had to cancel/reschedule. He added 12/24 as a new surgery date but that just wouldn't work. I'll be rescheduling for late Jan/early Feb.. I guess THAT is my present to myself lol....See MoreKathsgrdn
