Comments (4)So the meat doesn't have to be covered with the liquid unless the recipe says so? I thought maybe my meat was a little too dry. Thank you for the help. It wasn't a lot of extra liquid...a little per jar, but you're right, it did dilute the flavor a bit. I'm waiting to see how it turns out after the processing finishes. I'm trying to keep more in the pantry to free up the freezer. I'm always careful to follow the directions, but I didn't know what the density of the finished product was supposed to be like. thanks... Jill...See MoreGardening and canning...
Comments (17)Why, Gina, living in sin? Me? Oh no, you know I wouldn't. LOL Besides, it would be a 3 hour commute for either of us to move in with the other, so we take turns driving back and forth. Sharon, I certainly plan to get every darned one of those tomatoes into a jar somehow, after all the planting and weeding and watering! Diane, there are still tomatoes in the garden, if you really want some. (grin) As far as I'm concerned, that's where they are staying too. I can give them away, if I pick them. No way am I picking any more for anyone else, if they want them, they pick them themselves! It's the first time I had chestnuts and they sure are a lot of work. I'll take Gina's suggestion about the grapefruit spoon next time. As Donna mentioned, they are kind of "mealy" and didn't taste like I'd expected, plus I thought they'd be more crunchy, like filberts or something. The jury is still out on whether I think they're good enough to pick/remove outer covering/score/roast/shell any more. Annie...See Morelooking for: dinner recipe ideas for single dd (to be frozen)
Comments (2)I make my sons "Mom's Meals" for part of their Christmas present. Usually I do a batch of enchiladas then put 2 or 3 enchiladas and sauce in each freezer container. You can make chicken enchiladas or ground beef with black beans, finely diced onion, and cheese. Another thing I make is a chicken and stuffing casserole: 1 (3 pound) whole chicken (cooked in water, meat removed) 8 ounces dry bread stuffing mix 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of celery soup 1 1/4 cups chicken broth (from boiling the chicken) 1 cup evaporated milk Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Layer the deboned chicken meat in a lightly greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle stuffing mix over the chicken layer. In a large bowl mix together the soups, broth and evaporated milk. Stir well. Pour this mixture over the stuffing mix, making sure it gets to the bottom of the baking dish (poke around with a fork to let it saturate into the bottom layer). Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 45 minutes, until it starts to bubble in the center. Can be frozen before baking as everything is already cooked. I served this at an office lunch yesterday and it is very tasty - I think it will freeze just fine. Chicken Crunch Casserole 1 cup chopped celery 1 tablespoon butter or margarine 3 cups cubed cooked chicken breasts 1 1/2 cups cooked rice 1 (10 3/4 ounce) can cream of chicken soup, undiluted 3/4 cup mayonnaise (NOT Miracle Whip) 1 (8 ounce) can sliced water chestnuts, drained (Cut each water chestnut slice into quarters if you prefer them in smaller pieces) 1/2 cup sliced almonds 2 tablespoons chopped onions salt & pepper TOPPING 1 tablespoon melted butter or margarine 1/2 cup crushed corn flakes Directions 1In a skillet, saute' the celery in butter until tender. 2Remove from heat and add the next 8 ingredients. 3Spoon into an ungreased 2 1/2 quart baking dish. 4Combine melted butter& cornflakes. 5Sprinkle on top. 6Bake 350 degrees F for 30 minutes....See MoreDoes anyone have problems with their marble backsplash etching?
Comments (6)What I'm seeing on my monitor doesn't work together (marble looks dull and dirty -- more beige while the granite is glossy and grey), but to answer the question, if you put marble on the splash, it will etch. The character and chemical makeup of the stone won't change because you install it on a vertical surface instead of a horizontal one. In fact, your undercounter and hood lighting might make the etching more obvious. On the other hand, splatters on a splash tend to be fewer and smaller than spills on a counter. You have to figure out what bothers you. If you have a low tolerance, look at ceramic or glass. If you think you will be fine with it, look for a better lot of the marble....See More- 8 years ago
