Does she have her kennel cough vaccine? I don't know if that's 100% effective in preventing KC, but I assume she has it. They won't usually let you board without it. As long as she is eating, drinking, and wagging her tail, I would just watch her for a day or so before bringing her to the vet. Hope she feels better soon!

Yes. She had kennel cough vaccine. My other dog got that once and made such horrible noises that my neighbors called me to ask if something was wrong with my house! This dog is just spitting up. Something she normally doesn't do.

Does she want to go outside to eat grass? That's what mine does when the tummy is upset. If she is keeping her food down, is anything else wrong now? Has the vomiting stopped? Is she pooping and peeing ok?

They are having outbreaks in various shelters here of Parvo and distemper. I would certainly contact the vet immediately.

That really doesn’t sound like kennel cough to me. Did she throw up a tubular looking mass of food? Or has it been a while since she ate and the food was broken down? Sometimes dogs will eat too fast or something and for what ever reason the food is regurgitated from the esophogas. My dog’s done that a few times, it’s gross but not harmful to them. If the food is thrown up from the stomach then it could be any number of things and you’d need your vet to properly diagnose the problem. In those cases, I would bag a sample of whatever she’s bringing up. I’d also monitor her drinking, eating and potty habits so the Vet will know if they’re in normal range. If she’s still vomiting, you can either skip feeding her until her vomiting has stopped for a good while, or at least stick with a small amount of bland food like a little rice with some chicken broth. The biggest concern with vomiting is that she can get dehydrated but as long as she’s drinking and urinating, she should be fine until you can take her to see your vet. Also, once when my dog was really ill, the vet told me that one way to know if they are in distress is if their gums are white.

I would try to get her into the vet sooner if possible. I understand sometimes its not possiable. In the meantime dogs should not be fed if they are vomiting. I would boil skinless boneless chicken breast in just water. Thats the most easy on the gastro system.

I don't think she has a fever. Nose feels fine.

I agree about calling the vet....to see if there is something she might have picked up from a sick dog while boarding.

Do her poops look normal?

Is she just overly excited to see you?

A change of food could for sure cause stomach upset, especially in an older dog. But i wouldn't risk it if she's thrown up more than once. For sure call your vet. Or see if there is an emergency vet you can call and ask their advice if that's not possible. So sorry she's not feeling good. :(

I just had the same thing happen to my 1 year old cat. We had let him out on Sunday. When he came in he was just fine. On Monday morning I could tell something was wrong. I waited until in the afternoon to call my friend a vet wannabe. I was going to take him up there, 40 miles but it was blowing and snowing. I said if he isn't better in the morning I will bring him up. Tuesday he wasn't any better. He checked him and the only thing he could find was that he had a tender spot on his stomach. I had noticed it too when I picked him up. He didn't know what it could be. He decided to give him an antibiotic in case he had infection. I brought him home and he just laid around. He hadn't eaten in 2 days or went to the litter box. I started praying to St. Francis the patron saint for animals in the Catholic church. I had looked the prayer up on the internet. Then I thought of using holy water. I sprinkled some on him, and I thought maybe he will lick it and get some inside. I don't know if he licked himself or not, but within a short time he got up and started eating a little and drank a little water. It took a couple of days for him to start running around like he always did and now I can't even tell he was sick. I don't care if anyone else believes this or not. All that is important is that he is OK. I will pray for your dog. Good luck.

Had your dog had the canine flu shot before boarding? That would worry me far more than KC or something else. If you can get him there sooner, do so. He may refuse to allow him in the kennel and may examine him in the car. Do be honest with your vet's receptionist before bring him into the kennel. It is highly contagious and most vets are just treating the animal in the car, not in the kennel. If they must be hospitalized, they are usually taken to a specialty clinic that has an isolation wing.

The kennel cough vaccine is like the flu shot, it covers many strains but not everything. My dog once got kennel cough 8 months after receiving the shot. Now some places are requiring the shot every 6 months. You kennel doesn’t have you bring your own food? That coukd very well nevthe problem older dogs are more likely to have a reaction to a food they are not used to Is the dog actually throwing up or coughing with a little food coming up? Call the vet tomorrow to ask what to feed him to calm his stomach. I think they to,d me water from cooked rice, but I can’t recall you can also maybe swing by and pick up a couple cans of rx food that’s easy on the stomach. When my dog had kennel cough, he didn’t cough but his eyes were watery and he was very sneezy spewing boogers everywhere. Took him a while to recover.

I think we are over the hump. She did not get sick today and seems back to normal. We took a nice walk. I think we are okay and I really appreciate everyone's input and concern. You guys are the best.
