I would call the vet office where he had been boarded. Ask them any questions you have. Please don 't wait too long or he will get dehydrated. I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

I've got a call into the Vet's office. I was hoping someone who has experienced something similar could offer advice.

I used to give my dog plain white rice (cooked, of course) with chicken broth to help control diarrhea. It worked.

The vet called back and said just to watch him. If he's not feeling better in the morning, we will go in.

absolutely the best thing to stop diarrhea in dogs is feeding them canned pumpkin, my vet told me, and I have lots of real experience since my little dog has stomach issues.
Don't get the pie filling, just plain pumpkin, I have to put tiny bites into her mouth and hold it shut so she swallows it, she is used to doing it now and kinda likes it. It works amazingly well.

To help I also feed her small amounts of live culture yogurt with blue berries, both are good for the tummy.

I'm looking in my pantry. I don't think I have white rice. I do have pumpkin. Ill read up on that. my dog does love that. I thought it was for constipation.

We do the potty cut. It's just time to go back.

I think my vet (when I had a dog) said Pepto Bismo was ok. but check first.

I was giving pepto but my vet said she was not really supportive of it any more. She suggest using pepcid pills.

Every time my dog gets sick he gets white rice, boiled chicken, and canned pumpkin for a few days and then slowly add back the regular food. It's really easy on their tummies.

My vet has also recommended canned pumpkin for diarrhea. I hope your puppy is feeling better by tomorrow. Do get your baby to the vet first thing tomorrow if the diarrhea continues.

I think Pepto has aspirin in it, so it's not recommended anymore.

If the dog is vomiting, they usually recommend taking away food and water and letting the tummy rest. I think an occasional ice chip is OK, though. BUT- since your vet didn't say that, I wouldn't do it unless it becomes a big cycle, drink drink drink, vomit vomit vomit, drink drink drink, etc...

Withold food, then gradually introduce broth, rice, chicken. Pumpkin is beneficial.

Years ago, kaopectate was good. Don't know if that is still a medication of choice or not. Unfortunately, my most recent experiences have been of the hemorrhagic enteritis nature, requiring hospitalization.

So, watch your baby closely. Hopefully this is just a short-term tummy upset. I have never had to sign a diarrhea-release when boarding.

I would talk to the vet and tell them your dog is having issues.

I found out that there was this diarrhea going around in our dog's favourite park and the vet they walked the dogs there due to being they could walk the dogs there and back to the vet where they were kenneled.

At out vets they would ask what are you feeing your dog and they also suggested bringing your own food for them to eat as they do have problems when changing foods.

But you want to find out if its that or a health issue something to have to do soemthing about.

My dog (Wheaten Terrier) has occasional vomitting. When it happens, I stop feeding her for 24 to 36 hours, give her only water to drink. Then I feed her some boiled chicken, rinsed of any grease that floats off. Then start mixing the chicken in her regular dog food, taper off the chicken. This is on my vet's advice.

He's feeling better today. Still a bit of diarrhea. No vomiting. He was really bouncy when he got up. He has asked to potty twice. I think he'll be good by the end of the day.

I'm not sure why, but pumpkin is said to take care of both diarrhea and constipation, from what I've learned on a terrier forum! Glad he's acting better! When my dog has a pooping issue (like when she scarfs up something on our walk and I can't get it out of her mouth fast enough), I also don't give her any treats, because some of the ingredients could exacerbate the problem.

It concerns me that the vet had you sign that release about the chance of diarrhea, as if that's happened frequently enough with other dogs the clinic is taking care of that they want to get out of any responsibility. Like of making sure dogs are kept separate during feeding time (this is impt for 2 reasons: dogs eating other dogs' foods, which it appears in your case didn't agree with your pup, and the fact that it can bring out some dogs' aggression issues). I doubt they'd tell you if there were other dogs there who came in sick in any way?

When your dog is better, maybe you could do a "surprise" visit and see how they are boarding pups there? Perhaps there are some new procedures.

And are there any other alternative boarding options for when you go away? Like friends or neighbors, or other boarding businesses? After going through this episode once, I doubt I would be feeling entirely carefree leaving him there again.

I usually try to board him in a home when I go away and can't take him. My options have become limited. My home boarding option fell through on Thursday. I had less than 24 hours to find another place. I'm going to ask around.
