Chemical Tree Stump Removal

Hi all,

I have this obnoxious tree stump (maybe 1' in diameter - not a perfect circle, it's all wiggly and annoying) that's smack in the middle of this circular garden I have. Its taking up some prime real-estate and I would prefer it gone. I do not know what kind of tree, or perhaps massive shrub/bush it used to be.

When I moved in it was a 6' tall mass of multiple weeds and plants that I sawed down, covered with black fabric and mulched. It is extremely resilient though and sends up new stems/shoots and leaves (hence attempting to smother it).

What has worked for you all in the past? If I use chemical killers, would t also kill the other plants in the garden? If yes, is there any way to protect my other plants? Should I just suck it up and rent a grinder in the spring?
