Comments (27)Can't wait to see the photos! I wish I could give you some advice on posting the pics, but I'm definitely technologically challenged. We talked to the contractor that does work on our MH--he said he could do board and batten, but it will cost more because it's more labor intensive than the horizontal siding. Apparently, they have to be on a ladder for every piece that is installed so installation takes longer. I guess that makes sense, but I never would have thought that the contractors would charge extra for the amount of time spent on a ladder! Comments (2)As a exterior contractor I wouldn't even allow it to be left on the house, and i doubt you would be able to sell the tear off for anything but firewood. PLEASE, do it right if your going to do it. Tear it off and put new house wrap or foam insulation on before you put your vinyl on. Comments (3)Agree with Kudzu, assume the worst and hope for the best once you remove the siding. We also have the original cedar under our vinyl (we think). To give you a head start, we got a single bid for the same thing. Plan to get a couple more. It would probably be a decent amount of work filling nail holes from vinyl, etc, and who knows what condition it is in. I assumed the worst and got a bid to replace with 3" Hardie lap on bottom 2/3 with metal corners and shingles on top. Was close to $20k (not including painting), and my home is 1400 sq ft in Seattle....See MoreUser
