Who "rolls their own" soapstone wax?
Comments (10)After going 'au naturel' (as cookncarpenter puts it) since our counters were installed 5 years ago, I for some unknown reason decided to oil/wax our counters a few months ago. I had some mineral oil and I had a paste that was for our butcher block and was a combination of beeswax and mineral oil, and I used both on different parts. Then I decided to make my own and used about 50% of each, but I didn't find that to be very successful in that it solidified rapidly (after melting the wax and mixing the 2) and was hard to apply. So if anyone has a successful recipe, let us know. There have been a few threads about this on GW, including a great one in which Florida Joshua did a test trial of a few different things to see which lasted the longest, but the pics he included are gone. Here's the link to that post: What keeps soapstone darker the longest...See MoreSoapstone - can we oil after waxing
Comments (2)It sounds as though you may have a traditional soapstone which is softer and has more talc. Therefore it takes longer to age or darken. Continue to apply your soapstone wax or oil more frequently....See MoreHelp! Need to know what %'s of my oils/waxes for candles
Comments (0)Hello, hope everyone is well. I want to mix tallow / lard, bee, palm, soy and candillia waxes. I have seen a few forums say I can make a great candle out of these but I haven't seen at what % for each. I don't want to put too little or too much & make a huge candle disaster. I love my joy wax candles but my intention for these specific items I need %'s advice about is a more natural creation. Please some advice & I thank you in advance! Comments (3)Yes, never use any oil but mineral oil! I've never waxed mine. Oil every week for the first month, and then ease off. I probably oil mine once every two months, but I like the "just oiled" look. Super easy to do....See MoreBlueberry Abode
