Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measures
Comments (8)It sounds like you were seeing one of the infamous ads, corar, that slide down and cover up the contents of the page and even if you click in a clear area that doesn't seem like part of the ad, you're clicking a link? The solution is a good adblock. In windows I think firefox with the adblock extension is mentioned. On a mac you can do that or I just use glimmerblocker, which works for all my browsers....See MoreDesperately seeking suggestions for awkward corner nook!
Comments (73)Apologies if this has already been said but I don't have time to read all comments. I had a living room that was similiarly awkward and it took me so long to find a good furniture placement. Bear with me. While I can't see the rest of the living room, I suggest arranging the living room furniture with the end of that stone wall (fireplace I assume?) as if it were the wall. So in other words the rug would stop where or near where the fireplace ends. What makes that lovely space awkward is that it looks as if it's trying to be part of the living room. My suggestion would be, after you move the rug, switch the table and chair. Table under painting, chair in a "room with a view." It becomes a destination, a resting spot, a lovely special corner for retreat. At that point you have created an entrance area for the living room, possibly a gallery effect on the wall. Add a lamp to the table below the picture to make it a a real statement piece, which it is! Maybe some lighting in window area. Then you play with placement of things in the corner that draws the eye and gives people an opportunity to say, what's the story behind those skis? P.S. What a view out that window!!...See MoreDesperate for Blah Beige Update (on budget)!
Comments (14)Under $500?? Not feasable for all on your punch list. This is 2023, not 1983. The house is very new to you. Live in it for at least six months, before making any patchwork updates. See if the kitchen functions for you. Do you like walking around the barrier island, every time you need something from the other side of the kitchen? The kitchen may not be pretty, but the appliances look pretty recent, and functional. Painting isn’t going to update the kitchen…not with the dated details…the scroll work, and staggered cabinets. Besides, painting cabs is quite labor intensive as a DIY project. It’s not just slapping on a new color...unless you don’t mind paint chipping within a few months. There’s a painting forum on this site. Or, go to YouTube for instructions. A professional will cost thousands. Have patience. Wait. Save up for a major reno. It may take a few years, but then you’ll do it cohesively, and get the total look you want....See MoreDesperate to find a semi open or closed kitchen house plan
Comments (22)Thank you to all who have left comments, links, and ideas. Thank you, Jan Moyer, for making me realize I am not crazy! 'An architect is the pro who MARRIES your site with the exterior and the interior of the structure, your wish list, your budget.' I just need to find a good one. I have a wish list, a budget, and the land, but I don't have a plan. I have been working on this for almost 2 years now and I have come to hate the entire process, but we need a house. I hired an architect and paid for their services, but I ended up with only one item on the wish list, no garage, and a plan drawing that is a box with a roof. We spent 30 minutes together going over the wish list and budget, and a few weeks later, the plans arrived in the mail. I was told that I needed to pay additional fees if I wanted modifications. I needed a garage, but it wasn't included in the plan. I also needed a minimum of 12X12 second bedroom, but the plans included two 9X11 bedrooms. So, I hired a designer who worked for a recommended builder and paid for their services upfront. The designer asked me to look online and said we could do modifications. I sent 5 examples with notes and the wish list of features. However, I found out that the designer was only part-time and only knew how to redraw plans. She knew nothing about construction, and the plan was just a redraw of one I sent - no modifications were made. Once again, I was asked to pay more if I wanted modifications. I decided not to use that builder either. I am now out thousands of dollars with no plan. I truly appreciate the links, comments, and ideas. Please forgive my bitterness....See MoreG & S Floor Service
