Can you recommend Thermasoft heated floors? Who do you recommend?
Comments (7)Thanks Weedy, I seem to spend so much time on the internet these days looking for answers, that I can truly appreciate and respect someone else's research. Do you know if Warming Systems makes a mat? My installers have never put in radiant heating before so I am thinking that I should stick to a mat product, to make it as simple as possible ... for them and for me. I'm already introducing them to Kerdi, I don't want to drive them TOTALLY crazy. If you get a chance to revisit an older thread, you and I were on the same post a couple of weeks ago. It was entitled "What about a 'shower pan' instead of tiled floors?' I asked you some questions regarding some pics you posted, but the thread kind of ended. It's currently on page 9, or thereabouts. If you have the time to revisit it, would you do so? I would still like to know about shower glass. Thanks so much. Anne...See Morewhat do you use for a kitchen timer?
Comments (42)Yikes! I'd burn the house down without a timer. It goes something like this... Put chicken on to sear. Oh drats, I've got to use the facilities. Why didn't I do that before I started?! Well, I've got time for a quick run. While washing hands in the restroom I decide the sink needs a quick clean-up so I grab cleaner under the sink & give a fast spritz & wipe down. Then I notice the towels need freshening so I put clean towels on the hangers & grab the dirty ones. Well, I should just take these straight to the laundry room & start the washer....Hmmmm, do you smell something BURNING???!!! I use a cheap mechanical timer but I'd really like to have one with a cord to hang around my neck. In the summer, I tend to wander outside also & can't hear the timer. /tricia...See MoreTimer recommendations?
Comments (12)Warning: Sciency Content The reason the nozzle is locked in with the hose is galvanic action. The molecular differences between the brass hose and the aluminum nozzle causes the exchange of electrons leading to a sort of chemical welding. Now, since that came up... Brass has another interesting characteristic whereby it allows what's known as 'erosion' when water leaks through it. I've had brand new Sears hoses go bad in 30 minutes because I did not tighten the hose against the faucet properly. I have a picture somewhere, but it is identical to soil erosion caused by water leakage under pressure. I knew it could happen, but I've never seen it happen in 30 minutes. Once that happens you will forever and always have a leak there. So I am absolutely not hesitant to replace hose ends with PLASTIC end pieces. Why plastic? Because then I don't have to dread the inevitable heartbreak of eroding another brass fitting. The good plastic ones have a flat face. Flat faces can be a problem with flat hose washers, so I replace all my flat hose washers with #15 O-Rings (smaller size than 1/8-inch thick). I realize that sounds a little overboard, but I hate leaking hoses. And with O-Rings you don't need to screw them together so tightly. Also cheap hoses have stamped brass fittings. Those should be cut off at the store and replaced with plastic before you use them. I leave them on my soaker hoses, because those are supposed to leak anyway. Brass faucets can also erode. When that happens I break out a flat file and flatten the face of the faucet. You can see the eroded part immediately when you begin to file. So you can also tell when you've filed enough brass away to go beyond the erosion. Then use O-Rings and you should not have the problem again. And all that was to say, if you are going to cut off the end of the hose, use plastic fittings. By the way, WD-40 is not a penetrating oil. It might work, but another product might work better. I'd just cut it off, though....See Moredigital water timer recommendation for more than one hose
Comments (1)I have tried MANY brands and none of them lasted more than a couple of months. Either they burned through batteries daily, developed leaks of stopped opening and closing their valves....See Morecolleenoz
