I recommend DripWorks. If you e-mail or fax them a diagram of your garden or deck, they'll recommend a system and sell you everything you need. I suspect you'll need something like this: a filter and pressure regulator; 1/2" "mainline" tubing to circle the rail or floor of your deck; 1/4" tubing leading from the mainline to each of your planters; one or two emitters for each pot; fittings for the mainline corners; a male hose end and cap; a female hose start and plug; tools and connectors; and some extras. They're very easy to set up once you get the hang of it. I would suggest a timer, too, and a "Y" hose adapter with shutoff valves so that you can attach another hose to the same faucet.

I wonder if anyone has noticed that not a single match has been made on this thread between a person with extra dirt and a person who needs it who are both close to each other. Not surprising. I suggest using your local Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, etc. or the matching sites linked in this thread.

Hi Speghetina: I'm in the same area as you (Palo Alto, Zone 9) and I just harvested sugar snap peas in July, so perhaps it's the variety you are growing or the specific location in your garden. This year, I had squash beetles infect my winter squash with bacterial wilt. I'm going to start the plants over from seeds. The Common Ground Guide recommends planting squash in April, and I agree that that is the best time to plant them because they take 100 days. But, as you know, we get warm weather out here in September, so there's a fighting chance I'll still be able to grow these squash even though I'm planting them in July. The bottom line is that any of these guides provide good rules of thumb, but they are not absolutes. By the way, Common Ground is a great store, I shop there frequently!
