This one had a spell of pm too, in spring, but soon gone. Making sure there's enough water does help some varieties, I've noticed, too, though I do ask "how much water is it worth to me"? Sometimes the answer is "nope" ;-). Mme Lambard's coloring has appealed to me more than Georgetown Tea's, in the end. Old cemetery plants and varieties do seem to be pre-selected as far as toughness goes -- I love every one of mine that came from there. For example, the commercial 'Old Blush' clones I tried here pm'd to a fare-thee-well while my Old Blush type from a cemetery barely gets it and only in the spring.

Good to see you still have some late blooms to enjoy, Sheila. And those deep indigo irises look so stunning taking a bow in the spotlight, as stars of the show for a while. I've been wondering for months whether you had any hips to show us this year, from your Spinosissima collection, or others, but I kept forgetting or being too tired to ask, and I expect it's a bit late now. One thing I miss very much from having lost so many members from our forum, is the chance to see more of the old garden Europeans and species/ close to species roses in our cooler climate members' gardens. Their displays of glowing fruit and colouring foliage in autumn, and sometimes interesting bare winter forms, coloured canes and prickles, epitomise for me the subtler charm of older roses vs the showier moderns, in still having something of feel of a wild flowering shrub and several very different seasons of interest.

Thank you Sheila! Houzz continuously erased the photos I tried to post, but I will try to post some more photos as wella s one or two of the bud soon. It also did not let me add comments under the photos. THe colour of the open bloom was somewhat darker on my phone than on the computer screen (which I am trying now), it is more mid pink with a slight lavender undertone at present although the bud is quite a dark pink. The trip was a beautiful surprise, and quite a mission to get the cuttings home :-) The kind lady literally gave me an armload full of cuttings, and, as It was a surprise. I did not have any pruning scissors etc with me to prepare the cuttings. The place where we stayed was more like a small village than a town and we had to drive up and down for towelling paper, disposable cups, plastic bags etc to keep the cuttings moist. I furthermore went to beg the owner of the guesthouse for some boxes and a pruning scissors so that I could find someway to transport them. Nobody thought I was serious in taking back all those cuttings... but they were too special not to take them with. My dear old hubby flew back with with our youngest on his lap (she was about 8 months old at the time) while I clinged onto the box of cuttings with all my might (I am not a good flyer :-) Anyway, I really hope the following ones made it, although I am not so sure that they were some of the surviving ones: Mons Tillier (I love love loved the colour of the one I saw blooming in the garden!) Mme Franziska Kruger, Mme Lambard, Louis Philippe, Devoniensis, Catherine Mermet, Fanny la France, Ma Tulipe and Solfataire.

Gorgeous, Jeri! I've grown 2 Mme. Lambard' Teas from cuttings taken from Luanne Wilsons' plant that she got on a trip to Vintage Gardens, when Greg and Phillip still had a nursery by the road leading to Sebastopol, Ca. We could admire the bands of all sorts of roses, many of which were in bloom before we chose one or half a dozen. Lovely days. Thanks for the memories. Lux. P.S/ one of the daughter plants has shown all the variations that this rose is known for', blooming mostly peach on part of the plant when the other roses were pink blends, One part of a branching cane bloomed blush and white, 2 years ago, which was a shocker to me.
