Is my snake plant salvageable? Or dead. HELP.

I have had this plant for 2 years. I recently moved in with my mom- who I found out was dumping leftover water from cups around the house in it to help water it.... this was probably happening for 6 months before I noticed the I noticed the leaves drooping. she didn’t know that you can’t water it often. Something like 4 leaves have gotten mushy and fallen out over the past 2 months. I have tried to bring it back to life by taking out the bad leaves and I have stopped the over-watering problem :). I actually haven’t watered it in a long time because the soil wasn’t dry enough to water it. It doesn’t look like it’s getting better. Do I need to fertilize it? Or repot it? Or just wait? Q

Do you mean to tell me with all this below 0 weather it has made it this far?????????? Now that in itself is an extreme miracle..I always thought cold hard meant a few nights below freezing and short lived at that.. If this is that hardy to withstand the extreme cold winters here, then I am going to find a way to protect them like under a bucket or wrapped in burlap...But I always thought DORMANT plants of any kind are treated this way. I always thought that anything can be killed off up here that does not go dormant? I can't wait to see what others have to say... MIke

Unfortunately, this jade cannot be saved. It is severely sunburned and will not be able to perk back up. All of the leaves are damaged and you will not be able to propagate this plant. When placing plants in sunnier areas, you should always slowly acclimate them to the higher levels of light. The stem looks fine, but your mix is not suitable for growing succulents. It is very heavy and seems to be clay-based. If you attempt to grow jade plants again, I would recommend using a commercially available cactus mix in a 50/50 ratio with perlite.

Looks like caked up hydrophobic soil, as others have said... I just had some with this problem - all my other pots of it were fine... I probably left out coir by mistake in that pot. I pulled them out, stuck the pot in a bucket with slightly soapy water for about 10 minutes - not detergent - natural vegetable soap. Then mixed in about a litre of hydrated coconut coir, plus a couple of extra handfuls of gravel, then replanted... problem solved, plants bouncing back. I've never known one of these to care about root disturbance, ever. I throw them around and strongarm them, bust them up and repot them all the time. Even when they're sick, they come up roses. (Not literally, lol). This is the plant that you can't kill unless you had some type of alien death ray shooting from your eyes - that or overwatering!

It looks like it rotted from too much water. It's a small plant in a big pot, and it's mid winter and this is a succulent. I don't think this one will make it. My snake plants spend the season outside and may be watered every day, but in the house (in the Winter), I hardy water them at all.

Wrong soil for over watering. Soil is great if you never over water but that's why we use cactus soil mixed half with perlite. Once rot sets in, it is most deadly to the crown where the growth comes from. However, it usually sends up new sprouts (pups) that will continue to grow. Best guess from me is to let it continue to dry out and leave alone. If the soil is still damp, remove from pot onto papers and let totally dry out before placing back into pot. I wouldn't try to re-pot now because the stress is already too great. Cut off all the rot you can. Bright light and warmth will help out. Best of luck.

Wiggle the foliage and if it comes off easily it means the base is rotted. You can also stop watering altogether til spring and see how it fares. They are very tough plants but once rot sets in, no salvaging.
