My aunt is a wonderful person!
Comments (25)Hi ros and all, well aunt got the death sentence a few days ago, stage 4 Grioblastoma (sp?). We are all very devastated. I talked to her yesterday and she is like me, a straight talker. She doesn't want to be pitied or for anyone to pretend that it's not as serious as it is. It is so much easier for me to talk to realists. So, we talked about how she's getting bombarded with people wanting her to go the natural route and how some friends are claiming she will be cured with a certain kind of tea. She is very overwhelmed with the choices on cancer treatment centers as well. I do know the FDA just approved the Novo TTF cap that can be used 12 hours a day after the initial hit of chemo and radiation, we talked about that and how there is a possibility to buy her some time, save some brain cells and have some better life quality. The U.S studies are conservative with a small study group of less than 300 but still seem to offer some good, the Israeli studies (where invented) go back to 2007 and show an improved life span and in some cases shrinking tumors. So, at least there is something although no cure. As far as we know there is only one trial going on at the moment for her multi tumor brain cancer type. She has close to two weeks before she can start anything due to waiting for the biopsy area to heal. They are taking her off the steroids but I have no idea why. Her speech is getting slurred and she has trouble with balance/ walking but this was there before biopsy and is not a result of...just getting worse and moving fast. I'm still very upset that rotten murderous people are walking the earth healthy and she is sooo good but so ill. A few weeks ago she was sitting in my kitchen, normal, laughing and having a drink....See MoreWhere's Aunt Jen?
Comments (25)I'm still alive & kickin'! **waves to everyone** Thank you so much for asking about me - I had no idea I was missed, but someone was kind enough to email me and direct me to this thread. It's really nice to know that others have noticed my absence. :-) I still have trouble accessing this site from my work computer, and no amount of cache/cookie clearing seems to make it run any faster. My work responsibilities have recently changed somewhat and things are much more hectic than they used to be in the office, so I just don't have as much time to try to get the Home Dec forums to load so that I can post. We've also been in Puerto Vallarta - heavenly, as always, and I always return home trying to figure out if we could really make a "go" of moving down there permanently. For the moment, it remains only a dream - but perhaps someday we'll be able to be there at least more than a couple of weeks at a time. I haven't been too focused on home decor over the past few months, with work being so busy, traveling, and getting back to being a "gym rat." I have a feeling, though, that as cooler Fall temps roll around I'll become more inwardly focused and will likely go back to nesting mode at home. As for the little tiff that happened awhile back, I honestly can't even remember what it was over, or what was said. I certainly hope nobody would harbor a grudge against me for anything I've posted here in the past. I hope you are all doing well, enjoying these last days of summer!...See MoreOK, seriously - HOW do you clean wood (or faux wood) blinds?
Comments (45)figured I would bring this post back to life since I am now in need of cleaning my faux wooden blinds lol! in response to the last persons post re: using Windex, do not use Windex wipes. not sure about the spray but i happen to have a pack of windex wipes next to me and it says not for use on any wood type surfaces. pledge makes good wipes for that but you would prob need a few packages if your blinds were reallyyy dirty. anyway i am going to try dawn soap with warm water since mine are filthy! i had a small fire me in my room last summer and the insurance company had someone come in to clean the walls, blinds Etc and only bc i had to take my bounds down to fix a broken tilt cord, i just now noticed how horribly they "cleaned" them. (see picture reference) so ill post the before pictures now and after pictures once im done. in the pics im attaching now show how bad the back side of the blinds were that dont face towards me vs the 3rdnpic which is what i usually have them set to..ugh! at least 8 only have 1 side to really scrub at vs dusting the other cleaner side lol!...See MoreOh Aunt Jen ..
Comments (14)Oh, Zip!!! Swoon! It's so very wonderful, and I'd be insanely jealous, were it not for the fact that I'm happy for you! What a wonderful, nostalgic piece, and I can hardly wait to see how you transform it! (I'm envisioning that robin's egg blue color that I can't seem to get enough of on the settee, with vintage barkcloth pillows in a bold tropical print!) Get to painting, girl! I'm anxious for the end result! :-D Squirrel - I hate to sound like a weirdo (ok, so you probably already know that I am!) -- but I soooooo want to just lie down and roll around on that delicious floor. Something about it ... Well, it's just positively luscious!...See Moreeld6161
