That's called Power Point, it's a Microsoft product that's usually included with Office. If you have a Google's Gmail (or are willing to sign up for a free account) you'll also have access to Google's Docs product which is their office suite that includes a similar product called Slides. The advantage to Google product is that it's free and doesn't require any special software. It will run on just about any computer with a browser and an Internet connection.

I also believe that Microsoft offers a basic, free version of Office as part of having a Hotmail/Outlook account. I think that also includes a basic version of Power Point (what you're doing isn't very complicated). Like Google, Microsoft's product is online and doesn't require any more than a web browser and Internet connection.

I do have PowerPoint, but would like something a little more automatic. Picasa might be good, but it has been discontinued and I don't know if Google has a replacement for it. Ideally, I would like to copy all my photos to a folder, change each of their names to something more informative, and have the program just read all the photos with their names superimposed.

Maybe your older windows has Microsoft Movie Maker .. which can make a slide show. Or even Google YouTube had a way to do that too... used to do that anyhow. I haven't had a need nor desire to mess with that stuff in a long time.

OneDrive you stuff everything in one folder and share it.. and will run a slide show.. quickly looking you need to hover the mouse over picts to see their file names under them. I didn't try comments to see if that shows up naturally.

I have decided to just use the photo application which comes with Windows. I can also use Picasa but there is no advantage, and can shuffle the photos with the Windows application. My old Vista laptop has an HDMI port, as does my projector, and that seems to work well.

I will have to do this again in a few months and would like to solve the problem of having titles displayed during the show.

With Powerpoint you can make good presentation in few hours, by using already-made slides. It is not difficult to edit them. Look for tutorial videos on YouTube.

Update - I needed to create another slide show earlier this month. Again, I wanted something simple to create, because it's for a one-time presentation with over a hundred slides. I discovered that the slideshow option on the Win10 OS works fairly well and has one big advantage: if my folder has both images and videos, it will show both, in the proper order. There are few user-changeable options, including displaying filenames, but it works. Simply put all the slides and videos in one folder, open the first one, right-click on it, and select slideshow. The only problem was that Win10 is on my desktop computer, so I just carried it to the restaurant where the presentation was being held. I would still like to find a program which would automate the entire process. My ideal problem would be for me to create a file which has a list of all the files. I would load Command Prompt, go to the folder which has all the files, and type "dir/b > filelist.csv". This will create a comma separated file which lists all the files, one per line. I would add additional information to each line, such as a title and perhaps a time interval. I could do this all in Excel. But I need a program which would use this file to read each of the images (one at a time) and display the image with the title for the time selected. I don't know of any program which would do this. ???
