Comments (3)I paid about 400.00 eight years ago when we bought a house that had had cats in it (I'm allergic). I thought that was outrageous at the time. The house was 3500sf. I'm not sure how they did it tho, and have since learned that the previous poster is correct when stating how they should do it. I would, however, shop around as I have found great variability in what companies charge....See MoreDid I get a fair deal?
Comments (5)You got a high price, not a great deal, but not outrageous. Seven hours to replace an electric water heater is too long. It's good to realize that time is money... and messing around with an old heater doesn't make a lot of sense. Bradford White is an expensive heater. A standard 40 gal water heater is $300-400. At the low-end but still legit, the water heater should have been a $700 job. At the high end it should be about $1000 The other poster is correct. The time to figure it out is before the job is done. It's a water heater. They could have given you a price over the phone....See MoreHow to tell if I'm getting a fair price
Comments (7)Your best bet is to ask questions and more questions and yet more. Different people use different language different ways. In general, price by square foot, for instance for countertops, is the same as we learned in school: 12"x12". "Linear foot" usually means 12" x however wide it comes. So for cabinets, it would be how many feet a row of cabinets is, as you said. Unless the cabinets are shown as a single module (with a single price) including upper and lower (something I've never seen), then, again, you're right that the upper cabinets are another whole length of measure. It's harder for countertops. You'll hear $X/linear foot before fabrication, finishing and installation quoted, but what is the width? Are they assuming two feet ("standard" cabinet depth, but some fridge and oven cabinets are deeper)? Usually. Ask, to be sure. It might be linear feet of size of manufacture or some other odd thing. People are funny that way :D...See Morekynsmama
