It is with much regret that we must announce the passing of our long-time President, Woody Imberman. He died peacefully in his home last week, before Thanksgiving.

I am posting this here as many of you may be NALS members or may have known him from national or regional events. He was a noted judge and educator for all things Lilium.

His guidance and expertise will be sorely missed by our Society. Educating one and all on the benefits of growing these majestic flowers was a continual ambition of his, which he met with abundant knowledge and enthusiasm.

His sense of humor also brightened our events. I last saw him at our Society lily bulb sale in mid-October, held at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Where in addition to giving great advice to buyers on care and planting of their bulbs, he urged everyone to, when in doubt: “Plant more lilies!” And, “Lilies can get lonely: plant groups of them so they will have friends!”

There are a few pictures of him on our Wisconsin Illinois Lily Society Facebook page if you would like to visit. If you have photos, please share on our site. He will be missed.
