entry Design Dilemma Home Decorating

ideas for entryway?

In our last home we just had a small entry and I had this little bench made to fit perfectly. Well our new home has this big blank wall right when you walk in. It also has a lot of odd angles everywhere, like the one to the left of the little bench. So, we need a spot for shoes and I need to add a coat rack or hooks that a 4 and 6 year old can reach. Tired of hanging up their coats in the closet for them lol!

Actually it just occurred to me! I could put 2 low hooks inside on the door of the coat closet! So I guess a coat rack/hooks aren’t a necessity in this space unless it just looks cute ;) My design style is very pottery barn-ish I guess. I plan to paint this room a pale warm gray btw. The bench can stay or go, as long as something for shoes takes its place somewhere in the entry.

Any ideas?? Sorry for the poor lighting :)

you could leave the bench there and do a little coat hanging thing above it.

for the larger space, you could do a more significant builtin w/storage, cubbies, hangers for school items, etc.

Thanks Beth! I should also mention there’s 5 of us. I’m just not sure about having the cubbies as the first thing you see? Though those are actually pretty nice looking!

I would find another place for this table. I would do a floating shelf so that it can span across the carpet and hardwood. I would remove that small corner piece. Do you really need this table here? Do you enter your house here and want a place to throw your keys, etc? If you usually enter through another door and don't need this table, then you can keep the large mirror, but center it on that wall.

Pictures or diagram drawn to scale on graph paper needed. Would focus on enhancing the sidewalk you want actually used to lead visitors to your home and consider removing any other sidewalk or redirecting it if that is needed to avoid confusion as to the entry you want used.
