Fruit Cake - DH is a fan

DH loves fruitcake. His sister used to make it for him for Christmas, but no longer does and claims there isn't a recipe. He's tried the Costco one and says it's OK, but not the "dark" style he prefers. He likes the one from the Trappist Monks, which is crazy expensive. He doesn't care for any of the ones that are "blond." How hard can this be? I'm not a fruitcake fan so it's hard for me to eyeball a recipe and have any idea if it's what he's looking for. What makes one dark and one blond? Here's one from BBC Good Food, which they call a Christmas cake. Does it make a "dark" fruitcake? Does ground almond mean almond flour? Other sources? [The cooking directions are straight forward, the only non-standard part being adding brandy or whatever every "fornight."]
