callery pear is invasive around here, along with the mimosa. I was taking a walk along the creek in the bottoms today and noticed a lot of thorny callery pear thickets. There was also some black walnut, white oak, hickory, and american persimmon trees ,but not nearly as much since those don’t grow as fast. I’m noticing more and more pear trees every year. You don’t relize just how dense they are until the spring when you see their snow white flowers bordering the highway. Do you notice them growing in the wild around you?

Lots of callery seedlings here, they are pretty much all that's in color outside the UHI. Same in spring, they're the first woody to bloom save for the Asian mags. Fusarium has taken out most of the silk trees in midtenn.

This time of year they are very noicable. I bet most non evergreens with leaves on them are honeysuckle, burning bush, or invasive pear.

I have one that was a gift in my front bed. I recently painted it since it had faded. But I keep finding him on the sidewalk out of the bed. I have no idea how that is happening unless he is very gymnastic and is doing somersaults. We have another small one by the side door. He is on a John Deere tractor pulling a little trailer that is actually a flower pot you can plant something in. My husband liked the tractor it matches his. I see many I really like but I resist the temptation because I know it could easily lead to a bad infestation lol.

It's one of half dozen or so speedwell (Veronica spp) that are common lawn weeds. (Or not, depending on how you look at it). They should respond to any broadleaf lawn weed killer.

I suspected the first one was Asian honeysuckle. It's a small shrub, and we have honeysuckle elsewhere. This one sprung up in my nursery bed. Trying to determine if the self-sown maple saplings are Norway or sugar maple to be preserved. Clearly the feral descendants of a lawn tree. Unfortunately, these shots are ones I took on a visit to the parental units Mother's Day...since I can't go out and take more until my next visit. Notice the lack of helicopters. There was a teeny, tiny bit of white sap when I pulled off the leaf, but not much. Next time I come down, what should I photograph to identify it?

Callery pear seedlings and "mimosa" (Albizia julibrissin) are EVERYWHERE in east TN. In spring, they blanket the area, especially along the roads and in unkept fields. Both seem to have become much more of a problem in the last few decades. I sure don't remember them being so pervasive when I was a kid.

I find the occasional wild pear sapling in the woods behind my property. I'm not sure if they're 'callery' pears though, since I have a big Asian 'sand' pear tree in my backyard... the deer love the fruit and I'm sure they poop the seeds in the woods. That tree was planted in the mid 1970's so I have no idea what rootstock it's even growing on.

Mimosa is everywhere down here, there were two big ones in the backyard of a rental property I recently bought. The first thing I did was to cut them down... they look soft wooded, but I must say I was surprised at how tough that wood is to cut.

The biggest invaders in my area are Chinese Privet, Chinese Tallow, and Camphor tree. In drier areas with sandy soil it's not so much a problem, but areas with ample moisture are usually totally infested with it.

I find Ilex cornuta pretty often in wooded areas too, luckily it's a slow grower.

Common buckthorn is your callery pear here. The seedlings tend not to survive the winters. Although they tend to show up on the warmer parts of SE WI
