Fosamax
Comments (9)Hi Kids, I'm also watching this issue. I was started on Actonel by my Dr in June. I'm not crazy about taking a pill that has so many conditions surrounding it...take first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, take with full 8oz of water, sit up for at least 30 minutes after taking it, yada, yada, yada... It also makes me uneasy that it has such a long half life. But on the positive side...I hope we are all fine in taking it and that we get the result we are after. Seems like a bit of a crap shoot to me... Sooey...See MoreBoniva & Fosomax destroying my stomach
Comments (13)I think the drugs are doing my harm than good, especially the preventative ones, like flu and pneumonia shots. The death rates related to drugs are higher than they have ever been. The very thing you take the drug for often makes the problem worse. The PPIs, were only tested for 14 days, they don't know the long term effects, if they do they are not telling us about it. I have a very acidic stomach, I have trouble if I eat an apple on an empty stomach. I was taking an over the counter PPI, not knowing it was a PPI. By the time I found out what it was, my stomach was so bad I was ready to set up an appt a stomach scope. I was also allergic to it and I had sores on my head and was losing my hair. Thankfully I recovered from that. Now I just take tums and one (generic) Pepcid Complete a day. Working fine so far. I am a high risk for falls, but I am 74 and I think most people my age are in the same boat. I am still not going to take any drugs unless I am in pain....See MoreAnyone lift weights?
Comments (16)I do a class called BODY PUMP. It is an hour long class which primarily uses a straight bar that you attach various weights to each side, heavier weights for large muscle groups (butt, legs, dead lifts) and smaller weights for the smaller muscle groups (shoulders, biceps, triceps). The class is set to music and each song focuses on 1 body part. So after the warm-up you do a song where you load the bar with weights, put it across your shoulders and do about 6 minutes of squats. The you do a back workout, chest, triceps, biceps, lunges and shoulders. Last you do abs on the floor, then cool-down. I have been doing this class for 10 years, and it has totally transformed my workout and body. I love it!...See Moreboniva, fosomax... questions from unhappy person! lol
Comments (20)I took Fosamax for years, then a 2-year stint on injectable Forteo, now I'm on Boniva. The doctor suggested that I switch to Evista (which as Tally says helps protect against breast cancers), but I said "no" because side effects include blood clots in legs and lungs, and stroke. These are not common side effects. The cardiologist told me if I switch to Evista, then I would need to be sure to take baby aspirin. Maybe I'll switch to Evista later. All these bone drugs are fairly new, and I feel like a real guinea pig (squeek squeek!), but I am afraid to take nothing. Kat, you have to talk with your doctors to figure out which one is best for you. If you want to see a specialist, that would be an endocrinologist. Good luck with all this. You'll want to be tested for vitamin D and calcium and take supplements for that as well if needed. I send you a big hug for working so hard to take care of yourself. Good thing you are near to world class medical care....See Moreandreap
