Making hotel reservations for Alex's BMT graduation next month. I work every other day this week, which is rather annoying. The dogs have been making messes in the house these past few days. I don't know if it's one or both. Emily is getting older and I suspect it is her. With 2 of us here, I know they get let outside a lot more than when it was just me. I have puppy pads down now.

Hope you all have a nice day today! Working the late shift, will come home and throw the turkey in the oven.

I hate to hear you are having puppy problems. Might have to get one or both to the vet! I am puppy sitting 3 extras while two of my daughters and little granddaughter are out and about shopping and things. I don't mind. Izzi makes them behave, ha, ha. I have been working on what I can do today for tomorrow. More to be done first thing in the morning as I will leave here by 12 I think. Don't throw that turkey too far.

Older doggies often have problems. Hope both dogs check out okay at the vet. Puppy sitting is fun. Lots of cuddle opportunities. This afternoon I took 3 of the grands to see the movie, Wonder. It was excellent. Then we went to Target to select gifts to donate to the residents of the assisted living where my MIL lives, so that everyone has a gift on Christmas morning. The kids selected a gift set of Old Spice with bath gel, deodorant, shampoo.

The two grandsons decided to sleep over, but my granddaughter opted to be at home. She said her mother would have to bring too much stuff for her. She was mostly referring to shower and hair products, I believe. She's twelve and a half. She also announced that in 6 months she will not be a kid anymore.

I finially went and got a few groceries, enough for 3 days at least. My son dropped off beef stew a few days ago which his gf made it left much to be desired but we ate it so I picked up a sirloin roast that I'll cut up for beef stew. Annie over in the cooking forum posted her stew instructions for me. She made it recently and posted a photo which looked so good I had to ask her how to make it. Anyway I'll make it Monday I would make it tomorrow but the kids have been asking for ham BBQ sandwhiches and I promised. Amiee and the boys just put two pumpkin pies in the oven. They recieved no help from me but they did use the premade Pillsbury crust. They said they needed to practice for Thanksgiving LOL I will be a willing taste tester. I have a load of the boys school clothes washing now, actually just their school jeans. 125 deg.F Tide Free and Gentle Pod, and 3 rinses. I still have time for one more load tonight so I'll do school shirts. Tomorrow is another day. Elizabeth if your reading this I don't recall you posting lately of course I may have missed it...are you ok? Have a great Saturday evening everyone.

I was not feeling well for most of last week- a virus that turned into bronchitis which is very hard on me because I have asthma. All is well enough now, so I am back to gabbing away at the KT. I missed everyone :-) Rob, I had a terrible itching reaction to a sulfa drug many moons ago- it's awful. I hope you feel better soon. Kath, Four hours at the dentist?? My mouth aches for you. Yuk. Mama pinky, Aren't great parent teacher conferences the best things ever? There is nothing better than seeing your child meet his potential. I am going to offer a bit of unsolicited advice, because I learned this lesson a bit late in my parenting journey- I hope you don't mind. Carol Dweck from Stanford suggests we only reward effort and perseverance- never outcomes. A lot of bright children hardly need to study to do well in the young grades and are used to being praised for their results. Once they reach a stage where they need to study, they have not developed very good study skills and their self image is tied up in being a good student, so they are a bit stuck and often give up. Dweck popularized this theory when it was too late for me to learn from it. You should have seen the auditorium full of parents of late elementary/ middle schoolers when she spoke about this. We were all devastated at not having done a very good job. If I were you I might consider a special dinner or dessert with a "toast" to how well the boys stayed on top of their work and turned in their assignments and add anything meaningful you know about- like when Chip or Tim helped some one else learn, or struggled and learned something, etc. Motivation is a tricky thing.

It's raining again today and expected to rain for the weekend and into Monday. Rain forests do rain very well. Sad news. Still no sign of my cat. Chilli disappeared Monday night and it appears he's gotten in some kind of bad trouble. We're heartbroken as we lost our other cat 2 months ago as well. River was a feral but was coming in and going for walks with us, Chilli and the dogs all the time for 6 months. I'm afraid he got killed by the wildlife here. Chilli never stayed outside at all but he was here then wasn't. No one saw him go. I called and called... I haven't been sleeping.

Major heat wave today - it was 96° this afternoon, and despite the hot weather, I am still recuperating from a cold that I've had for about a week now. I am also recuperating from surgery to remove melanoma, and I have to go back to my dermatologist next week and the week after that for yet more surgery, but it will be less invasive than the melanoma removal. I met with business partner this afternoon at my house (I am not supposed to drive while I have stitches), and we worked out a deal for new furniture designs that will be made in Mexico. We had a conference call with the manufacturer in Mexico, and that went well, and so now I have to do some more drawings/designs. Having this new work makes me feel better and lifts my mood, which has been depressed because of the cold and the surgery. I had planned to go to Cathedral City this week-end, but since I cannot drive, that will not be happening. It's hot enough here anyway. It's actually hotter here in Los Angeles than it is in Palm Springs, due to the Santa Ana winds, which unfortunately cause me to feel depressed. Fortunately, I had a visit today, and that helped alleviate the depression, which was not severe anyway. Because of the heat, I had to water some of my chili plants twice today. If I were able, I would repot some of them, but my doctor has told me to wait on this, as I am not supposed to lift anything heavier than a gallon of water for a week. Next week my surgery will be on my left wrist, and that will also make gardening more difficult. However, it appears that I will be getting a good crop of chocolate Habanero chilies, and I did not realize that so many of my plants were this variety, as they are difficult to grow. I am also starting some seeds for winter herbs, including scallions, Indian basil, parsley, cilantro, and dill. I can grow these in the summer, but they seem to do better in the winter.

My mil is visiting and my husband took the day off work. Us three and my two daughters went out for lunch at Jason's Deli and then to see Murder on the Orient Express. The movie was just so-so. Came home, made supper, played lots of different card games. Prepped all my veggies, boiled eggs and made my mashed potatoes ahead of time to bake tomorrow. I also made my list of times and temperatures to bake stuff tomorrow. My mil gives my kids personal items when they turn 21. My son got a Harvard rocking chair last year when we were at her house and today she gave my daughter a beautiful diamond necklace. She has some papers she wanted me and dh to look at, so now I know what my youngest dd will be getting from her when she turns 21. She has almost exactly 2 years to go, since she will be turning 19 tomorrow.

I had a kind of an interesting day. I started off in the morning doing breakfast for a little boy and his family. then onto a cleaning and dog-walking job. The next one I was picking up children at their school and kindergarten and taking them to piano and voice lessons.

Then I had a lesson in how cab companies don't work well. The cabbie said he was there but I was standing on street corner with two little children and guess what, no cab. And the bus driver was exceedingly Pleasant considering the children were hungry and tired.

Uber bothers me but I really understand why people wish there were alternatives to cabs and buses especially with their hands full of little children etc..
