8 years agolast modified: 8 years agoVery windy here, 85mph on the wind gauge @ 8:30am. Last night we slept downstairs in the guest bedroom, it was so noisy upstairs. Figured we'd stay indoors today. We went to the thrift store, didn't need anything, figured we'd window shop & get some steps in on the Fitbit, the place is HUGE. :0) We purchased a Samsung blue-ray dvd player, w/ a "Despicable Me" disk in it. Watching that 2-nite. I looked up the model, in 2008 it sold for $250. Funny! :0) Found 2 huge bottles, in sealed packing, of potpourri oil, 1 Cinnamon & 1 Nutmeg, $2. Paint roller pan, .35cents. Trowel, $1. Heat register, $1.50. A signal enhancer $2, now we get several more channels on a spare TV. DH found a Columbia fishing vest(photographers wear them to put camera gear in all the little pockets). We had fun!
They had an antique oak potty chair, adult size, $60. Older guy was in line behind us buying it. He said he's going to set a plant on it, like this one.

Comments (12)I am so happy you will see your daughter soon, kathsgrdn. Not having a nice regular sleep pattern is exhausting. Have you tried guided imagery to help you get to sleep? I have spent the day trying to organize the family's schedule through the end of the year. My boys are in different schools, so Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks need more coordination than usual. I have accomplished nothing at all on that score. My husband's schedule is the controlling factor and he has a few things up in the air making planning a pain. I will wait until later next week to nail things down. Mama pinky, fish on the grill sounds lovely. I will try adding Parmesan to my oven baked potatoes in the future (I often use salt, pepper and cumin.) Comments (12)Good afternoon :-) Great find Nicole. DH brings not very exciting stuff home for me like fence material and things like that. Much appreciated but not very fancy even though it is free :-) he gets it on his job sites. When they are throwing stuff away they ask him if he wants it. I'm here having pizza with my husband. well sort of. he got a business call so I'm talking to you. My view outside the window is one of a traditional Vancouver gray rainy day. You can see me often with whole over layer of wool, hat, gloves, sweater, with a down vest,. Also a thin Merino wool underlayer which you can't see of course, and wool socks. I walk dogs as part of my living so wool keeps me warm even when I'm wet. I have to go and make a call about my accounting software today yuck. Then it's time to make chicken curry dinner. Comments (24)Major heat wave today - it was 96° this afternoon, and despite the hot weather, I am still recuperating from a cold that I've had for about a week now. I am also recuperating from surgery to remove melanoma, and I have to go back to my dermatologist next week and the week after that for yet more surgery, but it will be less invasive than the melanoma removal. I met with business partner this afternoon at my house (I am not supposed to drive while I have stitches), and we worked out a deal for new furniture designs that will be made in Mexico. We had a conference call with the manufacturer in Mexico, and that went well, and so now I have to do some more drawings/designs. Having this new work makes me feel better and lifts my mood, which has been depressed because of the cold and the surgery. I had planned to go to Cathedral City this week-end, but since I cannot drive, that will not be happening. It's hot enough here anyway. It's actually hotter here in Los Angeles than it is in Palm Springs, due to the Santa Ana winds, which unfortunately cause me to feel depressed. Fortunately, I had a visit today, and that helped alleviate the depression, which was not severe anyway. Because of the heat, I had to water some of my chili plants twice today. If I were able, I would repot some of them, but my doctor has told me to wait on this, as I am not supposed to lift anything heavier than a gallon of water for a week. Next week my surgery will be on my left wrist, and that will also make gardening more difficult. However, it appears that I will be getting a good crop of chocolate Habanero chilies, and I did not realize that so many of my plants were this variety, as they are difficult to grow. I am also starting some seeds for winter herbs, including scallions, Indian basil, parsley, cilantro, and dill. Comments (3)Looks like mealy bugs and/or scale. Wipe off as much as you can and spray. Quarantine from other plants, unless all your plants are infested. Since scale (if it is scale) has a waxy shell that resists pesticides, you may have to repeat. With persistent wiping, you can eliminate either pest, but it requires wiping every part of the plant where they are. Not too hard in plants with a few big leaves (I successfully cured an Amaryllis), tough in plants with many leaves and stems. Look up mealy bugs and scale and look at your leaves with a magnifying glass, because diagnosis via the internet is uncertain....See More- 8 years ago
