Worst rose chores
Comments (41)Oh my gosh you people work so hard! I cannot claim anything as grueling as you all have described. I am a weed fanatic and weed just about every day, knocking out even the tiniest weed. We have mulched for over 30 years, so digging holes isn't too bad. The garden was filled with chunks of asphalt for some reason, but those have been worked out over the years. I have someone come and prune the bushes for me, then I go around and fine-tune. Nice, huh? The hardest thing I did lately is decide to SP Tropicana after looking at that wicked, disgusting bush for 10 years, mildewed all the time with ugly roses. I butchered it down to the stump and absolutely could NOT get it dug out--needed dynamite. So I just left it to die out, which of course it didn't, but resprouted as a beautiful, healthy bush. What a surprise. We'll see how it does this year, but it looks good so far. If it gets bad this summer, I'll have to go to Plan B....See MoreWorst Rose Names
Comments (82)..I first grew the Golden Showers rose back in the 1980's, and it was a fine yellow climber, upright and continuous flowering, making a good splash of colour... ...I've only read on this forum that the name means something else too... I've no idea what, and no urge to find out, so I'm completely oblivious to it... therefore the rose Golden Showers, is still as it is to me... a fine modern yellow climbing rose... and nothing else... and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it over here, to a new gardener who wants an easy going rose... ..if they give me a queer look, I shall have no idea why......See MoreWorld's Worst Cabinets?- your opinion, pics - long
Comments (24)I bought cabinets from this same guy and you are not imagining it, these are poor quality. I had many of the same issues plus I had damage to the finish. I brought out a custom cabinet builder/refinisher to see if they were repairable and his professional opinion is that the cabinets have been exposed to too many variables in humidity that is why there is so much bowing, shrinking, warping, separating, etc. In my case the finish actually bled onto the styrofoam packaging material leaving marks all over the finish. The replacements they sent had the same problems so I asked for a refund and told them to come get their cabinets. Like you I had assembled the cabinets that weren't damaged on the promise that the damaged ones would be replaced. Mind you it took 2 months to get replacements and they were no better. I also want to note that my phone calls and emails were not returned during the 2 months we were waiting on replacement cabinets. Because I am out of state and these items were being shipped I initially ordered one cabinet which my husband now refers to as the "bait cabinet" it was very nice unlike the majority of the other cabinets I later received. I did file a chargeback with my credit card company and Ben fought me every step of the way, even blatantly lied. Fortunately, I smelled a rat early on and saved every email and kept note of every unreturned phone call. I too filed with the bbb, I am the "refusing to adjust" complaint. Ultimately, I won my dispute but not without harrassment. The cabinets sat in our garage for a year waiting to be picked up and I finally donated them to a womens shelter. You may want to run his name through California state contractor license board- search by personnel- you may be surprised by what you find. It may also help to know that KitchenPros is also Lido Kitchens or something like that and Westlake Construction, might want to look up those names too. Good luck, I feel for you. The lesson I learned " if it seems to good to be true, it is" I now have pinnacle RTA which I purchased through a local hardware store and I love them!!...See MoreTried on Name this Rose, but thought I might have better luck here
Comments (55)Hi Country Girl. What a conundrum this is proving to be! Rambling Rector should form pretty sprays of tiny red hips, if not deadheaded (obviously!), splayed out all round at a wide angle from the peduncle.... The formation of the spray you show higher up doesn't look quite right to produce that formation - the pedicles seem to be held all roughly pointing in the same direction. I don't remember RR's blooms ever being quite that yellow, but I could well be mistaken. The general effect was a mass of scented, creamy-white blossom. RR is a multiflora hybrid (acc. to HMF). I'm not knowledgeable about IDing the different kinds of ramblers, but Altorama mentioned above that the stipules on your rose didn't seem 'eyelashy' enough to be multiflora. Perhaps this doesn't necessarily apply to all hybrids of MF, though - I don't know. Just re some other suggestions - Goldfinch (another multiflora hybrid) should be thornless, I understand, as discussed earlier - a pity! I think the blooms are too small for either Aviator Bleriot or Allister Stella Grey, and maybe for Aglaia too. I'm not familiar with Danae, but Trier always seems to have some shadings of soft pink/peach, particularly in the buds - from which the Rev. Pemberton developed all those lovely subtly coloured Hybrid Musks. Although, as I said, I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject, a once bloomer with little sprays of blooms and the laterals all coming off the main cane, do indicate some sort of rambler to me. I think that means the blooms will form on older wood only, not the current season's growth - maybe a clue to look for. There are loads of wonderful old ramblers with sprays of creamy-white blossom, but as far as I know they almost always have sprays of small to tiny, red or orange hips. Therefore, perhaps the fact yours stay green - if they definitely do - might be a useful key to whittling the list down to which yours is? Could you not send photos through to RU and ask them what they think it is? Perhaps it may not even be something off their regular listings - possibly something they were sent by mistake, or a seedling they chose not to breed from? I hope some of these musings may be helpful and/or spark something off for someone else... Comtesse...See Morenippstress - zone 5 Nebraska
