How did all of you do Thanksgiving Day?
Comments (8)I can sympathize with you. My mom and dad joined us for a Thanksgiving for the first time in 5 yrs. My dad had his legs amputated and is scared to leave his home for fear of getting sick. His is 83 yrs old and is very unhappy and bitter. Us kids found a way for my parents to join us because my brother bought a large house with a bathroom that can accommodate his bathroom necessities. Although all of us visit on every occasion and at least 4 times a week we were so excited to be altoghter this holiday season. We are 21 in all. Well my dad and mom came and he was so miserable that he was nasty to all and just wanted to go home. All the kids were wonderful to him but I'm afraid if he dies no one will have pleasant memories of him of how he treated everyone. I wish my dad was a nicer person, we all understand his disabilities and really try to accommodate him but to no avail. My mom is so wonderful and she is his sole caretaker but I guess he wants her legs cause he doesnt have his own. At least your memories of your mom are great ones and your dad made his Thanksgiving day a happy one, my dad doesnt know how to be happy and cannot enjoy life at all, how sad, anyway I'm glad you had a nice day....See Morewhat time do you all eat on thanksgiving?
Comments (32)My family (and my husband's also) has always done holiday meals as a late lunch. We've never done dinner. Not sure why, maybe years ago family members had to travel??? Whatever. I really prefer eating around 2:00 and since I now host many of those meals, that's the time I set. Haha! For a big meal such as Thanksgiving, we are really not into appetizers, etc. Too much food. I prefer (and try steer others!) to eat the meal, then relax, visit, walk, etc. and have dessert later. However, if my MIL is here (and she often is), she thinks you should pull the dessert out as soon as the last bite of the meal is eaten. LOL! After eating we like to visit, at least part of us will end up in the sunroom, and as it's often still nice temps here we will spread to the outside area. While I always offer leftovers to take home, most will not eat again before leaving. Hubby and I often wait and have dessert later on rather than another meal....See MoreWhere do you eat your meals and why do you like to eat there?
Comments (57)Sorry for the yellowed image, it's gloomy outside today, but this is the view from the eating area in our kitchen. Here is where we eat 95% of our meals during cool or super hot weather, if it's mild or warm, we eat out side at the table. Our dining room is for larger gatherings. I love it there too, but rarely would the two of us choose to eat there alone. I've cleaned up the table so that the bottles of vitamins, supplements and Kleenex box are on the island, normally they live at DH's place! The tv is on the counter, to the right of the table. DH hates it being on in the mornings because it disturbs his reading of the paper, however we are usually watching the news or Jeopardy during dinner. Rarely do we eat in the den. We just don't find it comfortable to hang over the low coffee table while sitting on the sofa. Although that said, DH takes a tray in there when I'm having a Mahjongg game at the kitchen table. DD moved to Georgia and has the above areas and a darling screened in porch. I think that would be the best of both worlds....See MoreWhat do you normally eat for breakfast?
Comments (52)I have also struggled with all the variations of breakfast issues and what to eat. I have to take my thyroid medication on an empty stomach and wait 30 min. before eating. Luckily, I am one of those people like Ded, I have no appetite and don't even want to move until I have had my coffee. So I take my thyroid medication with a cup of coffee, and then wait at least 30 min. before eating actual breakfast. But I hate black coffee and also coffee with cream. But oddly, a bunch of sugar doesn't help either. So in lieu of that, I have a small sweet, like a granola bar, small muffin, biscotti, cookie, sweet roll, etc. But a small one, just enough to wash down the coffee. Kind of European, the "continental" type of breakfast. Then later, I'll have the protein to tide me over until a late lunch....See Moreseagrass_gw Cape Cod
