tobyt, "I was surprised about TH's in your town Tricia." Yeah, me too. Not often do we encounter such blantant bad behavior from a large corporation. But, it wasn't just my village. I could understand closing an underperforming location, or two. That's not what Tim Horton's did though. They closed every shop in the state simultaneously WITHOUT notifying employees or franchise owners. They ran out of the state under cover of darkness like a thief in the night. Some people had owned their franchises less than two years. I remember one couple who had recently received their franchise as a wedding present from the bride's parents. The parents ended up losing their personal residence & car when Tim Horton's fled. The couple had to sue to get the franchise refund due under the terms of their contract with TH's. TH's wouldn't even meet with the employees until local media forced the situation. Then, they agreed to employment counseling & offered franchise owners other "opportunities" in the mid-west. Nobody took them up on the "offer". Tim Horton is a poster child for poor corporate citizenship in Connecticut and it's a well earned reputation. Coffee was the problem that caused TH's financial losses in Connecticut. Their donuts, sandwiches, etc. were good. Sure, there were some that liked the coffee but too few to meet Wall Street's expectations. Repeatedly, TH's Connecticut customers asked the company for a lighter coffee blend. Repeatedly, TH's response was, "You'll get used to it!" (That's a quote from TH's, BTW...this TH versus the people of CT was a BIG hoopla for a long time.) New Englanders, as a group, are known for being shall we say, "individual thinkers". Connecticut customers were not going to be told how they will drink their coffee. So, they just went elsewhere for that morning cuppa Joe & a donut. TH's also refused to advertise locally. They also refused to help sponsor youth athletic programs, community fun runs, festivals, concerts, etc. like their competition so graciously does without complaint. And now TH has made a corporation decision to allow their empty buildings to sit without any maintenance. We have one here in Mystic. It's in a PRIME location downtown. A blight on our most prominant part of town reminding us every day of how those employees/franchise owners were treated. Good riddance to Tim Horton's. BTW, it was't just Connecticut. They also fled our little neighbor to the east, Rhode Island, for the same reasons and coordinated their stealth flight for the same night. Oh, and while I'm on a toot...they couldn't even get their geopgraphy correct. After all the local hoopla TH made an official corporate announcement of their closings in the local newspapers. They said, "We are closing our stores in Providence, Connecticut, and Rhode Island..." Geesh. /tricia

We celebrated National Ice Cream day in style. The ice cream (vanilla) was quite a hit, even though I made it every summer for years - when the kids were much younger (though without their spouses). Next Sunday they want olive oil ice cream, then I think I'll make Alton Brown's chocolate ice cream. I find that a recipe with about three cups cream/half & half makes just the right amount for everyone to have a good serving with almost nothing left, so I'm adjusting my recipes accordingly.

I'm with Glenda.I could eat a pimento cheese sandwich on toasted wheat bread every day and do when I have it.I make my own pimento cheese.Much better than store bought and from what I have seen of the prices in the stores,much cheaper! My DH loves it and would eat it every day too.That reminds me,I just bought cheese to make it a couple of days ago.Need to do that tomorrow. I could also eat frozen blueberries topped with heavy cream and splenda every day!Like eating ice cream.MMMMM...think I go fix me a bowl right now.

What a healthy group we are! I can't eat right away, but I need caffeine right away. Cup of black tea with a dash of milk. Then, depending on my schedule, it might be 20 minutes or an hour later, I have one of the following, depending on how much time I have: One piece whole grain toast w/ PB. If I have this, I usually also have a banana later in the morning. Or, I have a banana before I exercise, then have the toast later. About a cup of 2% greek plain yogurt, topped with a drizzle of honey and a lot of berries. (Discovered this breakfast at my hotel in London in April and became addicted.) Sometimes sprinkle sliced almonds on top. Scrambled egg or omelet, sometimes w/ one piece of toast. Occasionally, a Think Thin bar.

OA, this table will have all the neighborhood kids running over to eat with DGKids! Your table decor is lovely. But your waffles, topped with ice cream fried eggs and a side of bacon is the BOMB lady.So Fun!

I will have to show this to DGD for sure. You are a kick.

PartyM, there seems to be an unofficial EICFBreakfast Day Website that has the story of its origin. Even gives the name of the mother (now a grandmother) who "invented" the holiday. Of course, many an ice cream parlor advertises the "holiday" and has parties and specials to commemorate the event. There's a place in Seattle that has a big party and awards gold cones (silver and bronze too) for the best customer-written limericks.
Real or not, I just couldn't let this "holiday" go by.

Karen, I'm glad to be back. For one thing, this place is great for the ego. Everyone is so nice!

Jeanne and Kay, thanks for "double posting." That is so nice of you to take the time. I tell myself that I don't care about the number of comments I get, but the ruth of it is, I sometimes feel a little silly with only three or four comments and other blogs have zillions. It does make me wonder if anyone really knows I'm out there.

OA. I love this table! Just the right thing to see on a dreary winter day. Your grandkids are so lucky.
If there isn't an EAT ICE CREAM FOR BREAKFAST DAY there should be!
Have you thought about posting on Tablescape Thursday or one of the others to get more exposure?
This table will make me smile all day when I think of it.

Thanks for the kind words.

Actually, I do post on that blog. But the truth is, I'm not very good about leaving comments on other people's blogs, so there's few people who feel obliged to reciprocate. I know this, yet don't leave many comments myself. Still, way down deep in my poor little low self esteem heart, I wish more people would read my stuff. Am I foolish, or what!

You are going to have a crowd.

Just a suggestion:I read your blog, and wanted to leave a note, but you have to sign in. I have seen blogs were you can just make a comment without having to sign in. Don't know how they do it. B/C I don't know anything about blogs.
Please don't take offense, you know how people are, if they have to do anything extra, they just pass.
We all want a pat on the back every once in a while, and you deserve the "BEST PAT" AWARD!!

But, you are very creative and I am sure the DGKS will have a ball as they usually do.

What a fun table and I am impressed with the ice cream eggs and bacon!! That took a lot of imagination and effort.
Your DGK's are very lucky.
I didn't set a table, but because of your post, I did eat the rest of my McFlurry from last night for breakfast, LOL!!

Love the linens...cute folded napkins w/names and especially the
menu! I'm usualy not a breakfast eater, but this one certainly would entice me!
I'm amazed at your patience in creating the 'fried eggs' and bacon.
Lots of shaping and freezing, but the end results are perfect!
I can see by the smiles on their faces that the Gkids loved every bit of it!
