Pot filler w/ this backsplash too busy? Slab or tile backsplash?
Comments (9)Hi Katie, Demo starts tomorrow, so no pics on progress yet, but I'll post when I have some. I'm working a little bit with a KD, and doing the rest myself with cabinetmaker. KD suggested open shelving like in the inspiration pic (but in stainless, specifically). I think it would stress me out though, lol! Having all of my bottles and stuff right out there (the range area is the focal point to basically my whole downstairs living area). My pantry rarely looks fabulous, and I'd be moving the pantry out into the open. So, I think we'll be making the vertical column things on either side of the mantel style range area into pull-out shelves for sheet pans, spices, small bottles, etc. I considered the open shelving with a pretty display of white bowls and dishes, but then I'd lose the storage space for the stuff I really need at my fingertips. Feel free to email me, too, if you want to exchange more ideas. It's a fun process!...See MoreMy Kitchen backsplash is too busy! Help
Comments (36)Monochromatic means one color. I'd say this actually is monochromatic or close to it--all the same color family. The issue isn't that it is too colorful. The issue is whether it is too busy. That relates to pattern, which I think people often discuss in terms of whether something is too "busy." It is too busy for my taste. If the OPer had said in her first post, I love my new tile, I wouldn't say anything. But since she asked, I do think it is too busy. And I don't think the sunk cost is a reason not to change it. I think it can be changed with not much additional cost by simply pulling down the tile and painting a neutral color pulled from the countertop, or really even a different color which would be a way to introduce color without pattern. And a recent, favorite, not-at-all monochromatic kitchen reveal here that comes immediately to mind is Carrieb's....See MoreNeed help with our backsplash! Too busy?
Comments (16)How did these two people impress you otherwise? I met two amazing-amazing!-designers in two different tile shops(both very upscale). It was like seeing magic. The space didn't even exist yet..I started describing it..in a very awkward way..and that lady, she just started drawing as I spoke..that was the first time when I actually saw my future bath..three-dimensional and all..and I and my DH, we kinda designed it, and talked it over with the GC, and there were blueprints, so I was supposed to know it, right? and she never heard of it even..yet she was able to show me the space that existed just in my head, and to show it better than I imagined it myself. That was incredible. I'll never ever forget it So if people who told you that..if they amazed and inspired you like this lady amazed me-then consider, of course otherwise..go with your guts:) because I've been to many many tile shops and met many people..and I remember only these two ladies. Ah, and the one I actually told you about-she also owned the shop..and couple others. 30 years in business, something like that. Maybe 40, I wouldn't be surprised. experience and knowledge of what you sell count. And I hope you did show them the kitchen..right? not only the stone? or tried to draw the plan, describe it otherwise?...See MoreDesign help! Picking tile for backsplash that won't be too busy
Comments (7)What are all those receptacles and switches on the walls? I've never seen so many. Your backsplash will be very broken up by all of those. Depending on your local Code, but most say that a wall receptacle needs to be installed every 2'. You need to remove some of whatever those are....See Moreflopsycat1
