Tiling Question- What Would You Do?
Comments (14)Thanks for your help, everyone! I only had a few hours to tile today, but decided to continue one horizontal line across the 3 walls. Before today the plan was to tile up to the range hood, but we feared it would close the kitchen in a bit. If it looks awkward, I can add a few rows pretty easily. I like the idea about better tying in the range hood with a shelf or piece of stainless steel. That might work well. There will be about 14" extra inches of painted wall between the tile & hood. Maybe just a shelf? @may_flowers- Whoa! Just a little face-lift. We're not moving around cabinets. Really, just paint, back splash, and a few new appliances for now. No fan of the cabinets, but they are what they are. @fishymom-The tile is allen + roth 4x12" in the pearl finish. Looks nice installed, but lots of superficial scratches on the tile surface. Frustrating, but the price was pretty great. And the scratches don't show in this installation. Only when in direct sunlight. @Trebruchet- Thanks for the advice. You noted the same back in October when I posted some pics of the kitchen. It's laid out the way it's laid out. We certainly don't love it, but the layout will have to wait for a full kitchen re-do. There is about 3" between the burners and the side wall. I posted the link of before pics from back in October. Pics of today's progress. Don't pick apart my tiling please! Just an average DIYer! :D Here is a link that might be useful: October Advice Thread...See MoreWhat would you do question
Comments (25)When you let people intimidate you into doing things that are wrong or not doing things that you believe are right is a crime in itself and only encourages more. Ironic how some will talk about bullies and we have to "do something" about bullies, yet when the bully comes outside of the schoolyard, the bully rules. It shouldn't be tolerated on the school property or off the school property and yes it probably take some effort to do something and it definitely takes some courage. I don't know if many people can feel good about themselves when they let others push them around. I differ from a lot of people here because I strongly believe you need to stand up for what you believe is right, even if it is occasionally to your detriment. I firmly believe that when people witness crime but refuse to get involved, they're nothing less than an accessory to the crime and many times worse than the perp. How many times have you had or known people who had car damage from careless people but witnesses are so chicken-schick they won't get involved. This belief that everyone carries a gun or a knife and are out to get you personally turns my stomach. It's a copout IMO and nothing more. An excuse for laziness often. And often these are the people who cry the loudest when they're the victim of something. You need to decide what *your* morals, ethics and beliefs suggest you do. To do nothing condones and contributes to the actions. As a business owner I was still very involved in opposing things or supporting things when I felt they were *right*. Did it cost me some business? Yes. But then again, it also gained me a lot of respect with the people whose respect meant something to me and also actually gained me some business too. When a politician was giving gift contracts to relatives I stood up at a televised council meeting and called for the Mayor's resignation. I've never regretted it nor any other activities in crime prevention. Yes it cost me time, and cost me money since I contributed heavily to crime prevention, but I believe it's right. It's probably a little late now to go to the police, but you could talk to them. Depends on how ethical the local law folk are. They might not do anything official but planting a bug in their ear might be of some use. Contacting a superintendent is of little value. Remember, the superintendent works *for* the school board! Do you think a sup is going to challenge his/her boss on something like this? If they had ethics they would, but I don't believe they will. I know a lot of school district employees, and let's leave it at that! I think notifying the vehicle owner is a proper thing to do. I also would probably either write the offenders or more likely talk to them personally and suggest they resign to gauge their reaction before going to a school board meeting and bring it up there. Possibly invite some local media to attend that meeting too. I might not immediately identify the people at the meeting, depending on the situation but I'd outline the situation factually, state that I don't believe this is proper conduct for school board officials and ask the perpetrators to voluntarily resign. I also like Marry's suggestion of asking for an explanation. Perhaps do that before requesting the resignation (and skip talking to them personally). There's no way I could ignore this. It's wrong in too many ways and the ramifications of intimidation are too serious. Crime swells when people refuse to get involved. This is more than having long grass because the mower won't start. This is more than a speeding ticket by a public official....See MoreA what would you do question about a neighbor
Comments (67)Interesting responses. A few more points. First I forgot to say I wouldn't assume it to be collection, only that it's not legitimate. I realize that some of these calls and such can catch you off guard so you might slip and say or do some things you wouldn't normally. I would suggest to not give them ANYTHING. Don't say that he's your husband, don't say he does or does not know someone, etc. Give them NO info. If they ask "do you know ___?" My standard question is "Why do you ask?" If they so much as ask if you are talking on a telephone, again, "why do you ask?" Until you are completely comfortable it's legitimate, and you're confident you know WHY they're calling and what they intend to do with the information I would assume the call is sinister and it can be to your own detriment. As for what would a caller hope to accomplish? Sheesh. You really don't know? What does ANY scammer hope to accomplish? My experience in crime prevention, personal experiences and a diverse background has made me skeptical of peoples' intentions. I've seen too many good people have bad situations. Better to err on the side of caution, and that's one of the reasons why there's no doubt in my mind, since you're involved, do the right thing. One other thing, it's curious she offered to take your number out of their database, especially on the first call. Sounds very telemarketer to me. But again, I wouldn't assume anything. A collection agency simply would not. It's part of their records. They might make a note that they can't get through via this number but no way would they remove it. PI wouldn't remove it, again records. She may have said it with the intention to get on your better side to accomplish something more at that time or in a future call, but that's not too likely. Lots of bad smells to this call. Which is why I would want to know about it....See MoreGift? Another what would you do question..............................
Comments (25)I think this party is a way of thanking everyone for all their support throughout the process. As a very early premie "L" struggled to reach all the milestones necessary to thrive and be able to go home. We were involved in the daily progress with updates on TIny Beans. The parents became involved with March of Dimes and to show their gratitude had a Team "L" fundraiser where many donated and surpassed the goal. When "L" was finally discharged, DD and I had a special personalized blanket made to honor the occasion. I think most of the people attending this party will have already given a baby gift. I think I will give a gift card as Maddie has suggested with a special card expressing my best wishes etc....See MoreChi
