lg blue steam fl washer good or bad?
Comments (30)live_wire_oak, The LG washers like all other non-commercial large capacity washers in the USA operate off a 120V 15 amp circuit. With this design you cannot get more than about 1500 to 1600 watts of power out of the circuit. The motor/electronics used to operate everything else in the washer might take up to 500 watts or so of peak power (motors need a surge of power to get going and then use less to keep going) and maybe up to 250 watts of steady state power to operate. The power budget only allows about 1000 watts for the heater. When the LG machine is making steam it's not heating the water so the net additional energy being added to the tub is the same. re: "But then, about half of all Americans think the sun revolves around the earth. Science just isn't our forté, but hype certainly is." live_wire_oak, this was well said!!!! But then this is a subject for a whole different forum. luvmylg, We have been using FLers for the past 14 years. The first 13 of these years was serviced by an Asko. A truely wonderful machine in most respects (far from perfect, but still very very good) that churned through 10 to 15 loads a week without complaint until the end. Until the end it's only fault was a broken impeller where one of our kids play items got stuck and broke the impeller. This was half our fault for not checking his pockets and half Asko's fault for not having a good screen which would keep stuff away from the impeller. When the machine broke (electronics board failure) it was right at a time when we really needed a bigger machine but also didn't want to give up some of the nice cleaning aspects we got from the Asko. Bigger Miele machines were also being heavily rumored so we decided to get a serviceable, but temporary machine until Miele announced their product. At the time Home Depot was selling out their stock of Danby's at $300 (plus a $50 energy star rebate). I must say for $250 the Danby has been one great machine. It doesn't have anywhere near the quality and design of the Asko, but it has still been a very good performer. It has an internal water heater which will heat to 200F (very long cycle) and has controls which are simple and direct enough that you can get it to do pretty much anything you want. Now that the Miele W4840 is out, we will most likely get one of these once I finish reconfiguring our laundry room (moving the dryer to improve venting, and moving the washer location so a big machine will fit). So far most of the W4840 feedback on this forum has been good, but I'm also considering the Bosch Nexxt as well if some current info on this forum regarding how the Miele uses it's internal heater turn out to be true. Who knows, might also consider LG machines as well if Miele drops off the list. I like the solid heft of the Miele compared with other machines out there. I hope it's determined that Miele uses the internal heater in all cycles....See MoreLarge capacity FL with sanitary cycle
Comments (37)The killer is I sold the Asko to get the Duet, and I feel like I have totally wasted my money on it. Good thing I had the extended warranty because it has needed bearings and a new motor in the 4.5 years I've had it. Now I wonder if its mother board is going. Incredible. I don't expect that on these things, they are not cheap. And I bought a machine with an internal heater so as to be sure to get the water to the right temperature. Clothes, to me, are supposed to smell like cloth and not detergent. They are not supposed to have 'soapy streaks' on them after you only use 1-2 tablespoons of powder in the wash. I have moderately hard water so the powder SHOULD dissolve - it does in my (Bosch) dishwasher, though that is a different formula of course. And forget about using (Canadian bought because you can't buy them in the US anymore) soap flakes -- they do not wash out AT ALL in the Duets. Couple this with having to replace my Whirlpool dishwasher because its motherboard fried itself in 4.5 years I don't think I want to buy another Whirlpool. I hope my (Whirlpool made) Kitchenaid stove lasts! (LOL). It was my second Whirlpool dishwasher; the one in my last house worked really, really well. I'm not going to every buy another Whirlpool if I can manage it. I'm just done with them....See MoreIf you want to know about the LG Twin Wash, ask here!
Comments (52)Cerculeanblue I was able to do a large load of towels last night and my door doesn't seem to shake. However I changed the spin speed to medium because I read on here someplace that towels won't be as hard. What spin speed do you use for towels? I really like the new machine a lot. I had them put the hammer arrerstors on when they installed and I have absolutely no banging of the pipes. The machine is very quiet. do you ever use the steam cycle on the dryer? The installer tried to talk me out of hooking it up. He said I had to choose which was more important the side kick washer or the steam dryer water hookup....he didn't see away to hook it up so they would all work. Fortunately I had printed out the instructions from the lg website as I was curious when I was buying and wanted to make sure I had all the parts available. He was thankful and I was glad my OCD paid off!...See MoreMold and debris front end LG washing machine
Comments (4)My sister's 10 y.o. Frigidaire f/l washer had severe mold. 5 cycles with washer cleaner, two with bleach and a couple more to rinse didn't clean it. The gunk was pervasive. Wish I had known sparky's method with the Cascade which sounds like the only thing possible to get at it all. But still difficult on top and in folds. My brother ordered a new gasket for the washer. My two brothers replaced the gasket -- there is a You Tube video but it's much more difficult actually and it's a two man job. Fortunately, they are two big, strong guys. The new gasket is in but will take some time to normalize. There is now an issue with the door closing properly each time. That said, it was done, the washer is clean and no need to replace. Perhaps LG will sell you a new gasket....See Morelittlegreeny
