cat lovers: where did you put the dreadful litter box?
Comments (43)Wow! Thanks to everybody for all of the your creative suggestions!!! I am still debating on the better location. It's either going to be in the garage or the basement bathtub (that no one EVER uses). For what it's worth, we use Tidy Cats clumping litter and it seems to do the best job for us. I also installed one of those intermittent spray air fresheners (runs on batteries and hangs on a simple nail) just over the tub where their box is. That has made a great deal of difference...but It's not enough to make me want a litter box off my foyer anymore! Natal, thanks for asking about the basement. It really got me rethinking my position on that. My reasons for avoiding using it as a litter spot is that since our renovation, the basement is just soooo nice now...I just hate to have that durn box, the scattered litter, the smells, etc. down there! The only place it can go is the tub though. My concern with that is that the tub is acrylic, and I am afraid of getting too many scratches. But, I'm thinking that if I get a couple of throw rugs to line the tub and lay over the edge, it might not be a problem. Now I'll just have to find a way of keeping them from clawing up the leather furniture that's down there...(maybe we'll have to re-try Soft Paws...hmmmm...) Sujafr, Thanks for the warning about losing the fire-rating on the door to the garage. I would not have thought of that in a zillion years. Hmmmmm...now that option does not seem so great. My DH will certainly hate the idea knowing that little tidbit. I'm glad I did not do my usual thing and just impulsively hack a hole in the door! Jeanne gallo--wow!!! That little cut-out for the kitties is awesome! I so want that in my next house!!!! Do you mind if I save a copy of the photos?? Thanks again, everybody! You guys are THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...See More"Fluff" post: trivial questions
Comments (52)I'm late to the party, but all my hangars are the heavier white plastic. DH has all wooden hangars in his closets; they have a hanging bar for slacks/jeans and wider "arms" for his shirts. He got rather territorial when I took a few of "his" hangars for my jackets and coats. I pointed out he still had extras; I had bought an extra dozen....See More"Fluff" post: fuzzy toilet lid covers
Comments (69)Back in my first years on my own I tried the set but the lid would never stay up with it on there and after cleaning the toilet decided that was a mistake to buy that set so out it went. Bought one of the soft toilet seats and they were really nice for cold winter days when I had the heat down a bit lower. Now, it doesn't bother me and I keep the heat higher than in those days now that I'm older. I figure a few more therms of gas are no big deal compared to my comfort. I worked and saved, now it's time to enjoy it. I like seeing the old radiators. There's something comforting about them. I just wouldn't want it for my heat source because around here, steam heat is hideously expensive. I like seeing some of the covers people build for radiators. I guess I find it amusing how some get so worked up over a litter box, most of whom have had diaper pails sitting around, changed their kids on all the furniture, many including the kitchen table, and worry about germs. To each their own I guess!...See MoreFluff post: do you use those Renuzit or Glade air freshener solids?
Comments (59)a whole lot of scented things bother me - physically. my sister uses the plug in scent things. everything she sends to me smells like it. If it's clothes, i have to wash them or hang them outside for several days. even non cloth things smell like it. I can't use (or be around where it is used) Windex or Lysol. I had to walk right back out of Target one day - as I walked in, I passed a check out lane where the clerk was cleaning her counter with Windex. I felt it instantly and left. I use to wear White Diamonds, then one day, I couldn't anymore - or even be around those who do. A girl in the office started using it and we had to ask her not to anymore at work. If caused my throat to close up. As did one of those 'hang in the car' things. I bought one for my car (yrs ago) with a coconut scent (which I like) but when I sat in my car reading the newspaper (outside the laundromat), my throat started closing up - it kept getting worse... and I was about to panic when i saw that thing (new) hanging on the mirror. Being the only thing new to me and my car, I took it off and threw it outside the car and left my car door open. It took a few minutes, but my throat began to release and I was ok. Never again! I buy scent free Kleenex (puffs) and detergent (Arm and Hammer). When i went to the laundromat, I had to use scent free dryer sheets - sometimes they were hard to find in stores around me. I'm very careful with cleaners, lotions, soaps, shampoo etc. In a way, it's a really a sad thing to be afflicted with... in another way, it's really a warning to us... a red flag to pay close attention to....See More- 8 years ago
