It's cold and rainy. Just finished 3 long day shifts in a row. I have to work tomorrow evening and then I'll have a couple days off. Today just dragged on. We were short people but it didn't matter, only got busy a couple times.

Went to Kroger for a few items after work. Got complimented on my hat again...this is like the 3rd or 4th time some young person has complimented me on my hat. It's off white and has a big ball on top of it-lol. It was a gift from a friend so I have no idea where she got it. It's so warm too.

Lauren is making pizza and we are going to play a card game. I have to stay up tonight so I can drive safely home tomorrow night. Going to be a long night.

It's extra difficult to leave the house when it's cold and rainy. Lucky that you have a nice hot pizza to look forward to!

I'm eating far too many out of a box of chocolates - my bad! Very cold here, but temperatures a bit nicer today. Ate delicious beef stew for dinner. It's funny how it's so easy to read through a recipe and assume that it will be quick to make --- only to find out that it's not!

Great pics! Saw 2 males and 2 females on my feeders yesterday at the same time. They only seem to show up early and before dark. Was at my daughter's today in the Poconos. All woods. No flowers and just 1 feeder. Her hummers were at the feeder every 10 minutes. Maybe the less plants you have, the more time they spend at the feeders?

Did some laundry, went grocery shopping.....had to go to three stores to find lady fingers. It would have been easier to make a jelly roll cake and line the springform pan with that than running around trying to find the lady fingers. Came home and made an ice cream dessert with the L.F.'s and got it in the freezer. I'm having my Wine and Dine group here a week from Wed. and decided instead of going out for dinner after "happy hour", we would just stay here. Trying to get whatever can be done ahead of time and in the freezer. Then I tried a new recipe for Lobster Mac 'n' Cheese. It was very disappointing....couldn't even taste the lobster. Total waste of money. Won't be trying that again. Will freeze the leftovers in small portions and when I don't feel like cooking, grab a pack. It wasn't horrible, just disappointing. Tomorrow I'm making cheese crispies. They look like peanut butter cookies but are an appetizer I thought would go nice with the gazpacho I'm going to make next week. I just make little balls of dough, freeze them and when I want some, I defrost and bake. Will also make some mini corn cakes and freeze them ready to top with creme' fraiche mixed with lemon juice and dill, a piece of smoked salmon and dill garnish. A fancier take on lox and bagels :-))) The more I can get done ahead of time the better.

I'm thinking of everyone. I was supposed to use my antique (1990, owned it since then) Miata until Halloween. Yesterday, I went to shift into first to take off at a light. It went into gear, but the wheels didn't move. Stuck in gear. In the middle of a VERY busy road. In rush hour traffic. Because it was stuck in gear, and wouldn't go into neutral, I couldn't push it. Sigh. I called the police immediately so they could direct traffic and help ameliorate congestion. Got a tow truck. Got the car home. And all modes of transport into the city were unavailable at that point, so I gardened, and decided to ride in with my son today, and ride home on the train today. Wow. Rode a different bus to the train station than typical because of Friday traffic, and hoof it down Broadway. Wow the mouths of the people on that bus were awful. It's typically fun camaraderie. Not today. Then, getting down Broadway was, um, interesting. Apparently, everyone evacuated to Nashville and bar hop. So many drunks to wade through. Ugh. We live in this city to raise our families, we're not interested in the party crowd. I thought the train would be better since I'd be riding with two friends, but a fourth joined us and the discussion was, well, raunchy. I MUST fix my car tomorrow. I was so ready for peace and quiet, I walked from the train station, a mile and half to gain my composure. Got to Starbucks and had a cuppa and took a deep breath. Much better. Watched videos on how to rebuild my shifter and ready to do it now. We'll do it tomorrow afternoon. In the sunlight, rather than the dark.

What haven't I done lately? Whew. I planned my outfits for the week yesterday, because everything else is done. I did make some cookies (and ate too many of them). I put the dahlia tubers in pots with soil and put them in the basement. I hope they'll be ok. And I decided to get back on the diet wagon full force, so I made my snacks/lunches for the week. I sketched the front bed and sat to watch the sun moving to decide how much of the bed is truly shade only. I watched a painted lady butterfly on the butterfly bush after I deadheaded it. Made me smile! I rested for the remainder of the day. . In the past week: I cleaned the house from top to bottom and even cleaned the oven (not self cleaning). I painted the dining room and one wall of the hallway (the one facing the living room) before guests came so they could enjoy the new color and see what color the hall will be. I raked a million more leaves; I'm almost done. I painted a lot more of the pergola. We took the broken plastic roof off the pergola so it won't hold in moisture (mold. I've had fungal sinusitis twice in the past year, so I am thinking about these sorts of things), or leaves, and catch the wind in a way that sounds scary to the cats. "What's that noise?! Augh!!! Run around and look wary". Poor things. The boy got up on the 25 foot ladder and finished the last few dabs of paint on the body of the house. I need to paint one more set of shutters, finish the front and back porches, and the window trim, but the main body and doors are done. We replaced two of the 72 window panes; these were broken. Now, they're all ready for reglazing. That will happen the next time we have warm weather, and I scrape off the old glazing. I have two storm windows on, but need 7 more. I weeded the entire garden, and started 27 kinds of seeds. I put out several more winter sowing containers, with five more to go. I watched Inception, and stayed confused the whole movie. I get the basic premise, but not the tiny details. I made a fantastic turkey and sad sides. Everyone else liked them, but not me. I threw it all away, except the turkey. And apple pie. The boy ate that one. I did gain a couple of pounds, but no big deal since I'm dieting. I'll be back down by the end of this week. Oh, and he changed out the dining room light switch. It dims now. I think that's everything. Next week is work on the car weekend, new tires and oil change. We might also put up the porch swing now that I can access the top of the pergola.

The rain has been coming down all day here. It's cold outside but not as cold as it was a few weeks ago. My face didn't freeze off just about when I went out for a walk with my husband and our dogs.

I should be sleeping too. this is really going to miss my schedule up when I have to start back to work. I haven't worked since Friday at about 11 p.m.. two days off so far, two more to go and then I start back on Wednesday at 7 a.m. to 4 pm. The drive home is much longer these days and I have to have a little cat nap before I start on my way as I get sleepy if I don't. I put on some very loud music if I find myself getting even a bit sleepy. It works particularly if a song I know comes on.

Today we washed the wall to wall carpet in the living room with our new rug shampooer. We're very happy with it. It does the job.

We had leftovers for supper, salmon patties that my husband made with herbs spices and onions in it. I topped mine with tomato, cheese, mustard and salsa. Delicious!

The wind is whipping up today and blowing around the few leaves left from my yard. I wish it'd blow them across the street into the sort of community compost pile we have, and where they'd have ended up were I home to get them up today. I didn't want to spend all weekend long raking leaves, but that's what happened. I do think I'm almost done for the year, and that makes me happy. Put out more seeds in winter sowing containers and got ten of the last eleven ready. Seedaholic is holding my order until they get their Helenium seeds (see the link for the beauties. I'm in love), so when they arrive, I'll be ready to add the seeds, tape up the containers, and put them out. Just in time for cold weather germination. Yesterday, I worked on cleaning the house inside. Felt nice at the end of the day. What's really funny is the reason that motivated me. I bought a new broom. I like using it so much, I just kept sweeping and sweeping. The floors feel so much better. The old broom left bristles rather than get up the dirt-made the floor dirtier ;)

Today, I will catch up at work because my boss is at a convention on the west coast. We had a fellow come in from Japan (she'll start her three year rotation in January) on her way to Anaheim (where the convention is being held), and she pretty much had clothes for that venue. It's not southern California warm here. I felt sorry for her, but today, I bet she's nice and toasty while I'm wearing a wool coat and my feet are freezing. Aint it funny how the world goes round.

Rental: I raked 9 HUGE bags of leaves, cleaned the inside of the dishwasher & stove(after the self clean was done). Then lost my thumb ring when I was pulling weeds out front. Have to drive by & see if I can find it.

rob....we call those Gaillardia grandiflora flowers or fiesta flowers. I grew some from seed, they bloomed last year! Luv them too!

different flower... but gaillardia are also nice. Helenium is 48 inches tall. Super tall.

Oh....taller would be beautiful! I grow the helianthus maximiliani...up to 10' tall. It's sort of weird looking. lol
