Seeking non-toxic mat for under treadmill

Does anybody have a suggestion for a non-toxic mat for under a treadmill? Everything I have found is either PVC, EVA or Recycled Rubber, all of which have differing toxins in them (and given that it will be in a small room in my basement with little ventilation, I'd like something totally natural).

The flooring in the room is cork but I'm concerned it will get damaged by the weight of the machine. I was thinking of perhaps getting a role of cork to put another layer between the machine and my floors. Any thoughts on that or other suggestions?

I have asthma triggered by VOC type chemicals. We have a side by side washer and dryer in a closet and I wanted to finish the floors in something that would not off gas. We went with marmoleum, a no VOC pseudo linoleum type product. Perhaps you could use that? I'm not sure though that it would prevent the weight from still damaging your floors?

For those who think there is no issue and no more education needs done I would disagree. I didn't know anything about the toxicity of foxgloves and my 7 year old son has got into wildflowers during the lockdowns. As children tend to do he was admiring the beauty of a foxglove in a forest this week and also as children are very prone to do he put his finger into one of the belllike - fingerlike flowers just for the fun of it. His finger got the pollen on him but as I had never heard of any danger with foxgloves (they are everywhere in ireland) i didn't think anything of it. I said he should wipe the pollen off on some grass but I didn't really think there would be any problem. About half an hour later he had a packet of raisins further into the forest. (We even used hand sanitiser first) A few hours later he started feeling very unwell and no appetite for any dinner and eventually threw up multiple times everywhere. Because of covid restrictions we haven't been going anywhere, and he has had no contact with people as school is out. So I know it wasn't a bug. I think it really would help parents to know about the dangers as think how easily a young child could do the same thing and enjoy putting their fingers into the flowers, without knowing the pollen is dangerous. We don't need ot be afraid of everything but when even the pollen is dangerous in foxgloves a little wider awareness would really help.

i dont understand the problem??? are you suggesting.. that you have so few plant choices that your life can not go on.. if you dont keep/get this plant in your yard??? if it bothers you.. GET RID OF IT ... or dont buy it otherwise... i found out that if i fed my kids well enough .. they didnt really need to graze the garden ... lol .. and the first thing they learned when they could talk.. was not to put anything in the garden in their mouth ... unless daddy gave it to them ... i wouldnt care if a bunny was to stupid to not know better [which i doubt] .. same with the dog .... as it should be trained enough to stay out of your garden ... as to the bees... how would this thing go to seed.. w/o a pollinator ... etc ... me thinks you doth protest to much.. frankly.. everything in your garden is toxic.. one way or another... but if you cant live with the risk.. all the power to ya.. but dont tell me you cant live w/o it ... is there a psyche forum .. lol .. this isnt about the plant.. as much as you worrying about it ... and you will NEVER enjoy this plant.. if you get it .... so why bother.... ken ps: know why monarch butterflies are so wildly colored??? because they are highly poisonous to birds.. and the color keeps the birds away ... mother nature has a way of taking care of these things ... but she can do nothing about you 'worrying' about it all ...

I hope you get everything worked out and can survive for 10 months. We're 2nd floor dwellers ourselves (thank goodness, only for one more month...then we're moving to a house). We try to be considerate of those below us - we only have one person below us. He tends to do his laundry from midnight to 3am, but he leaves for work between 3:30 and 4am. I work out at home usually around 5am, but he's long gone. We've never had a problem with him complaining or us complaining, but we do try to be respectful and not make a lot of noise when he's at home. And I definitely know that cats can be loud - ours love to run around every once in a while and they do sound like elephants. Perhaps you can do as someone above mentioned and make note that her dog barks, but you understand they bark. Cats jump from place to place. Good luck!

Mongoct & jerzeegirl - thanks for your replies! Mongoct - I was hoping you would write!!! I'm sorry, I should have clarified that no one has ever confirmed for me what exactly is backing the tile. I just assumed it was greenboard based on my limited observation skills and because I thought the use of greenboard only was code compliant. (In my old apartment, the tile contractor used greenboard in the tub surround and swore it complied with code.) Despite my grievances, I actually do not think the current contractors would go so far as to violate code. Operating under this assumption, I would not expect the contractors to do more than to repair the water penetration issue. You all have given me food for thought, though. I will ask the GC on Monday what is backing the tile. If they are violating code, I certainly will make them replace our shower! Other than that, I'm guessing from your post the repair was already completed? Did they dig out the mud along the entire length of the shower (along the glass door and along the fixed glass panel) and repair the membrane to completely isolate the shower mud and thinset from the bathroom floor mud and thinset? Mongo - the work is not done. The mudbed was still damp today so we are running a fan all weekend and hopefully, the tile workers will be able to do the waterproof job on Monday. They have digged out the mud under the saddle the full length of the shower. Their plan is to paint the waterproof mastic vertically on the mud that is on either side of the saddle. I am going to ask them to use the mastic on the perpendicular sides (i.e., the walls) as well, although they may already be planning to do this. I really hope this works...

As Milly Rey states. The cork is all you need. The treadmill won't damage the cork. It might dimple it...but cork recovers from dimples. If you want proof, there is a simple test.

Take an off cut of the cork. Use the butt end of a screwdriver (or something round and hard) and PUSH into the cork (don't hit it...push the object into the cork). Put your weight behind it. Hold for several seconds (until your muscles shake). Now observe the dimple. It should be pretty deep. Good.

Now take a SUPER hot/wet cloth (as hot as you can handle...hot tap water is usually enough) and place the hot/wet cloth (it can be dripping wet...that's not a problem) and put it over the dimple. Use a bit of weight to hold it down (like a shoe) and go do something for 5 minutes.

Come back and remove the cloth from the cork (cloth should be cool to the touch). Now look at the dimple once again. It will have improved by 50% - 100%. If there is still a dimple, simply repeat the hot cloth trick until it is removed.

Tah Dah! Cork floor has been fixed. That's why you don't worry about heavy items sitting on a cork floor.

Just saw one comment i was going to say.. the treadmill itself is loaded with toxins the entire belt is pvc loaded which gas off for years
