Pachira - Money Tree Questions - please help
Comments (11)Hi - I'm new to the forum, and am delighted to find so many knowledgeable individuals willing to share. My husband and I have a Pachira (Money Tree) that we bought at Lowe's well over a year ago and it was about 2 feet tall and healthy-looking. As city-folk in Los Angeles, we put it on our balcony, in an alcove that still faces straight out, but is set back from the edge of balcony. It is partly sunny/partly shady -- seems to be a perfect spot. We named our Pachira (and call it by name) and it has been REMARKABLE -- growing to over 6 feet tall and lush and full. We have never done ANYthing to it, never repotted, etc. just water once a week and talk to it. Maybe it just loves sunny California and having a name, LOL!!! >>> about two weeks ago we had stormy Santa Ana winds, and even back in her alcove, our Pachira was tempest-tossed, and we heard her crash to the ground. NOT a good thing -- we have a table and chairs, and a tiny repotting bench that she managed to hurt herself on, on her way down. Of course, we set her aright, and soothed her, but we weren't sure what else to do. And then, about 2 days later, she began to drop leaves, and turn color--yellowish leaves at first, now turning brown and/or spotty. Not all leaves have turned yet, but a ton of them.We are thinking that we are going to have to be brutal and trim off the damaged parts, but we are also thinking it may be a good time to freshen her soil, since it has never been changed. On hand we only have the following two soils to use. MIRACLE-GRO Potting Mix (Tierra Para Macetas) with MICROMAX. and also MIRACLE-GROW Cactus, Palm & Citrus Potting Mix with a Fast-Draining Formula. We have no idea which -- if either -- of these would be good for her. And so we are "considering" mixing them half-and-half. Does anyone have any suggestions on: 1. SOIL 2. TRIMMING 3. ANYTHING else we can do to lessen her trauma, etc. Many, many thanks in advance. This is URGENT if anyone could possibly reply right away. Thank you so much....See MoreHave money questions about elderly grandma
Comments (9)I thought the same thing as the others have said. It sounds like she's not clear thinking, Dementia. It can be very hard to get a doctor to see she's having trouble with her financial affairs and now that she's knows that her son knows she's not doing well she'll be even more guarded in what she tells and say's to him. All the doctor care about is that a person can tell you their name, where they live. I went through it for 3 years with my dad till he ended up having to go into a rehab after a pacemaker was put in. The doctor there told me dad had dementia pretty bad. He told me to take away his cars. That would not have gone over at all but as it ended up dad has to stay in a nursing home permanently. Best you can do is stand by your dad and understand what he's going through. It's very hard on the child of the parent having to take over and care for them. As you said he got upset when she made a big to do over the money, well it's not the end of her fight. She'll fight everything he or anyone that try's to take over her affairs. It's only natural not to want anyone in your business, but it clearly needs to be done or she'll end up living with one of ya'll or on the street....See MoreWell, got another one
Comments (12)Wait a second... you've got a full price offer, and you want to keep all of the escrow from the previous offer that was withdrawn? The point of escrow is to compensate you for the expenses and loss of market value of having to put the house on the market again. I'd deduct the actual expenses incurred and let them have the rest back. Then again, I'm regularly accused of being "too fair", whatever that means. I could see waiting until after the new deal closes to make sure that the actual expenses really are actual and don't keep on growing. That said, their argument about the promotion "not being their fault" is stupid. They made the choice to accept the promotion and not move. Whatever amount you decide to give back is a gift....See MoreMoney Gift Question
Comments (21)suzieque, I could see your point to an extent... but... My aunt sent me a check with a white purse for my wedding. For some stupid reason, I kept the check in the purse and just forgot to cash it. Months later my aunt called and told me to cash it. That's the difference. Since the aunt hasn't told her niece to cash the checks, it's almost at the point now where maybe she shouldn't cash them (especially if the aunt is hurting for money). I can see your point if this were the first check but there is now a routine and habit of not cashing it. We don't know what the aunt thinks only that she hasn't told the niece to cash them so, at this point, it may be best not to cash them. I mean she could cash it and send her a $100 gift card to make up for it but I seriously think there could be a chance the check could bounce. Plus, I doubt she's mad or I have a feeling the checks would have stopped altogether....See More- 8 years ago
