Remontant, do you want the dogwood to develop into looking like a small tree? or a shrub? If you do want a tree form, then right now; first, consider the fork in the nice fairly straight up growing trunk, The mainleader branch I am indicating is the one growing up beside the blue "A" in the photo above, If you remove the inside growing branch which helps to form the "v" crotch, I think your transplant is young enough to resume developing a single main leader for about 4 feet more before the leader should be allowed to develop into a modified leader form tree. As for the very dominant type left side branch growing very low out off that main leader branch just describe, It appears that it is also trying to develop into a side main multiple leader. Right now it seems good to immediately prune it down halfway between the blue pruining indicator marks and the yellow line in the above photo. Other than that, simply prune away the very lower-most thin twigs growing below the green line along the better main leader trunk that I first identified. Then, in the late summer, prune off the that lowest, left most, in the above photo, side branch that seems to be trying to grow straight upward. It is the one which appears to currently have almost grown its canopy to the height of your good main leader trunk canopy. It is the same branching side I first directed you to immediately cut down just under half height. In the photo above you can see it marked with blue dash where it joins very low along the above suggested best main leader trunk After that, let the tree grow for another year before doing any more major structual training. In the first couple winters, after the tree has gone dormant, you can prune away thin twigs, which helps to clean up the lower main leader branch, or do light pruning which helps to thin out any twigs which if allowed to continue to develop will be limiting the light infiltration to the middle of the tree. Of course if you instead are desiring for the dogwood to develop into a huge shrub or a weak muli leader tree form, then disregard my above pruning suggestions.

I planted a couple Jujubes in the easement in back of my next door neighbor's house about 20 years ago. They were root sprouts from a named variety (maybe 'Li') given to me by a friend. They don't produce fruit every year and when they do the critters, possums, birds, etc., often get to it before I do. They had lots of blooms this year, but I haven't checked to see if they have fruit. When we do get fruit I just eat it out of hand. They taste like dry apples. There are no seeds to speak of. They make pretty trees that grow straight up with dark bark and glossy leaves, but we don't get enough fruit from them to make it worth having cut back all the root sprouts. They didn't start sprouting (up 10 or more feet from the mother tree) for the first 10 years or so. I had read that do that and thought I was going to get by without having that problem, but the sprouts are easy to mow down except when they come up in flower beds. Then they have to be manually cut back. Also, they have thorns. But realize the ones I have are planted in poor caliche type soil and are not watered. The trees do amazingly well under those conditions, but you may get more fruit in better soil. Also there may be better varieties availble now. I have pictures I will post if I can find them.

when it is %25 yellow, you can pick it. %50 or more is a bit sweeter, but you start risking rot and animal predation. if you dont have animal problems, and watch the fruit every day, pick when fully ripe (over %50 yellow) trunks do not normally snap in 1/2 just from the weight of the fruit. that said, i do top mine to try and keep them shorter and fruit lower to the ground. you can buy dwarf seeds on ebay and university of Hawaii (Waimanalo Low Bearing X-77 seeds) $1 per pack (50), free shipping LOL... http://www.ctahr.hawaii.edu/seed/seeds.asp your current trees will start producing new leaves and stalks. i keep a maximum of 3 stalks per plant. you will have more leaf area, so you can support a few more fruit per tree, but the same amount of roots, so, you should thin the flower buds / small fruits by 2/3 for 3 stalks or by 1/2 for 2 stalks. i even thin out flowers on single trunk plants by about %20, so the fruit are bigger and sweeter. you can cut the top 2 inches off every month or so to restrict height

and based on the info provided... can you name this one ...? i see pots.. is it seed grown ... what per cent of JJs come true from seed??? and if the answer is none or few... then he already named it ... and if he planted the seed ... what was the name of the one the seed came from.. and if he bought it as a cultivar.. he failed to mention such ... ken BTW... seeing an actual fruit.. might be required when naming/guessing the name of a fruit ... and the fruit freaks in the fruit forum.. might be a help in this case ...
