Advice Needed - Painting 1941 brick front Colonial
Comments (18)You don't have to use "power" to wash a brick house. A spray of water with something like Jomax will not harm the brick or the mortar and will remove the surface grime. You can scrub the individual bricks with watered down muriatic acid to remove the paint that is on them but do this by hand and only on those bricks. I have BM Linem on the trim in our library and the undertone is decidedly yellow, which sounds as though it would go nicely with the Rockport Grey with brown undertones. However, the blue/black would be of concern and you might consider a very very dark brown (almost black) instead. Agree with everybody else about painting the garage door the siding color. However, that garage door is very "ageing modern" looking and I would think to replace it at some point with a more traditional looking carriage door. Finally, Would not use a different white trim with the shingles when you use Linen elsewhere/ on the front. Your house might end up looking like separate buildings depending upon what side one views. Comments (9)weezel - I did not fill the grain. This was just a quick fix to get the cabinets to last a couple of more years until we rip them all out. They are builder grade 20+ years old and the finish on the bottom cabinets was looking very worn. The grain isn't super deep . Up close you can certainly see the wood grain but from a few feet away it really isn't noticeable. christasista - I found lots of blogs that showed gray wall colors in a variety of rooms and also show which ones are warm gray or cool gray, etc. I liked Edgecome Gray and Revere Pewter in addition to the Agreeable Gray I chose. I also found lots of photos with blue gray cabinets but I found that they rarely listed the actual cabinet color. That was a harder choice. SW Sea Salt is more of a green gray and I also liked Tidewater. For white, I have just been using Behr's Ultra Pure White, which is the untinted paint straight off the shelf, for all of my trim, doors and ceilings. mama goose - Thank you!...See MoreNeed advice for painting my living room walls. Comments (118)We lived in Ukla (I may be spelling it wrong) but it was a little town outside Brussels. We didn't want to live in Waterloo where most x-pats live because we wanted to improve our French and we loved that little area. We spent Sat morning walking to the little shops for first Chocolat!! Then breads, then flowers, then meats, etc. etc. It was glorious! Looking forward to seeing more pictures!...See MoreAdvice Needed: Painting Brick Cape Cod
Comments (5)I think the navy blue would look best, then add a bright colored front door in either a darker red or maybe a mustard yellow. Just a pop of some warm color since it's going to be blue, white and grey....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
