You are posting a lot of these photos that you say you did for clients ... are you looking for a pat on the back or constructive criticism? Are you an Interior Designer or a Decorator? Did you recently start your business?

I am an Interior Architecture and Design Student who started her own interior design company. I started my business about 8 months ago and have steadily gained clients (a lot faster than I thought I would!) I would say I am looking for both, but mostly just posting to show others my work and add to my Houzz portfolio!

The projects you showed I found to be a bit dark and too brown, but maybe the client really liked that look and feeling. The dining room rug was a bit small ... chairs should fit on the rug when they are pushed all the way out. Just little details that make a difference in the overall feel of the finished room.

I know exactly what you are talking about with the brown thing, I said the same thing when I walked in the house! The client had just repainted the whole house in that dark color (and hardly had any ceiling lighting), so I did the best I could to add light accent pieces and extra lighting. She already had the couches and chairs so I unfortunately had no say in that from a Design aspect either. Also, the rug she had before hand as well. Not sure if it is visible in the before pictures. Thank you for your comments, I take all of these to heart as I am student that is continuously learning!

I probably would have added a different color to all that brown, say, blue, orange, red, green, or yellow.

Ditto what nosoccermom said! Buying new pillows obviously, so why not point a client in a direction that takes a room from amateur to professional? Pillows can always be returned if the client hates them. With a dark brown sofa, you could add pillows with pattern, texture, and color that would take it to the next level. Right now, you're certainly improving things, and with a bit more work it will take it to the professional level. The current artwork above the sofa is so bland, and art can be had that's affordable for anyone at places like Home Goods, Ross, Marshalls, Ikea, etc. Here are a couple photos of LR with dark sofa that show you how to brighten and make the room more welcoming. It looks good but yes I agree with penny design, the tags need to be removed from the pillows.
