Hi Marg... That forum moves as slow as a snail with a disability. Sounds like your plant is very happy. I wouldn't stop what you are doing unless you don't like the flowers. I have see some bloom when given rest all winter to come out into the spring light. Than I have seen some bloom whenever they want when grown as you do. You are lucky to get flowers, especially this time of the year when many complain of not getting any even when they are suppose to. Enjoy and cut the stalk off after the flowers are spent whenever you feel like it unless you are looking for seeds. Mike:-)

ssk: take the seed and look at where the root used to be, if theres a hole into the seed now...its over, you cant get a radical from that again. If theres still some bit of root on the seed theres a couple things you can try (but as Gail said its not looking to great for you) 1: Rooting hormone paste: You can make a paste from pretty much any rooting hormone and smear it onto what is left of the root. Make sure to water with fungicide. 2: Super thrive and fungicide water: Sometimes when we have a seed that just wont take and its something special I will make a mix of superthrive and some fungicide and give it a 2 day soak in that mix. Superthrive is Vit. B and rooting Hormones. This is akin to bringing the seed to a witch doctor to bless it most likely but it cant hurt!! I have seen old seeds really push once I have done this, but its been far from scientifically proven to work. 1 drop per gallon on the superthrive. Captan for the fungicide. I cannot stress enough how important it is to water with a fungicide like Captan when growing these. It will cut your losses down by a very large %.

FYI....Clivias grow in just about anything that drains very well and fast!!! You can even grow them in leaf mold, orchard mix, plain peatposs, strait coconut coir and even pebbles if you make sure they are watered well and don't over dry. They are so so easy to grow. I have them growing in everything except potting soil. They are all doing well, but the one I grew in potting soil did no good. That soil always stayed wet to long. I should of lightened it up with extra perlite or something. So I use mediums that drain and dry fast. Don't forget to give them lots of just light,not sun all spring in summer so they can get strong enough to produce blossoms for the next year. Lots of light not direct afternoon sun, or they will scourch. late in the afternoon or early morning sun is perfect. Even under trees where you get speckeld lite. Feed them heavily and and stop at end of fall. Pull back on light, food and water about October and store in a cool dry place. I gaureentee you you will get them to blossom like I do. They must have at least 6 leaves on each side to do so, cause then they are mature enough to send off flowers for you. Hope this helps. I use a mild time release fertilizer called Nutricote during the year and in early spring I use triple super phosphate to help flowering along. Mine are producing flowers and are not pot bound at all. The key to good flowering is that they prefer to have a 6 week period in late fall where the lows get down to the 50s. Given that they have this cool period, if I remember the right number, it is 45 days after the cool period that flowers are initiated. Professional people who don't get this period have big coolers and put their plants in those coolers, and stagger their timings so new plants are flowering in stages, so they can sell the plants in flower during a longer period of time. I have a decent collection of clivias, but am still paying with them to figure them out. I have a lot of yellows and a few apricots and some crosses of the two, including a cross of the San Marcos Yellow and the "Sunrise Sunset", which are both fragrant. These have not flowered yet, but I could smell my SS in the greenhouse from 40 feet away. If I figiure these things out to make it worth while, I will put up a small shed in the back and put a wall unit air conditioner in, and put it on high and do the cooling thing to help increase my flowering and so it will be consistant enough to bring them to the shows and sales here in Florida.
