Hummmm.......You've got me thinking!
Comments (4)Some people don't know this, but cuttings taken from older or woody growth are not the best, they can take a very very long time to take off. It is possible that that is what you started with here. Ideally, cuttings should come from neither old nor very new growth, but somewhere in between. I was in a round robin last fall and two of the varieties I took from the selection were obviously older growth. I hesitated because I knew they probably wouldn't be good, but I really wanted them so took them anyway. It has been about 8 months now and compared to the other cuttings I planted at the same time, one of them has just now sent out a vine, the other has grown maybe two leaves. So, for anyone that does not know, if buying, selling, or trading, old growth cuttings are not desirable!...See MoreKnowing...did you see it? What did you think of it?
Comments (2)Just saw this recently. I liked the mystery and intrigue, and was even willing to forgive the incredible coincidences and ease with which Nicholas Cage was able to solve it, until... ***********SPOILERS************** Until it turned out the whole thing was about aliens and the earth ending. Ugh. I just have no patience for what this particular formula in movies. Even putting that aside for a minute, the idea that these aliens knew about the end of the earth years ahead, and that their course of action was to just let it happen and save two and only two children is abhorent to me. Why not save lots of children? Why these two in particular? Why only children? Why not give earth real advance warning instead of a cryptic note seen by three people a week before the end? My theory on this movie was that a couple of art directors/set designers/special effects guys were sitting around one night, sipping some wine, and wondering how they could get nominated for an oscar. The conversation goes something like this: - You know what always wins? - what? - Aliens with cool looking spaceships - yeah! Let's do one of those! Result: Knowing...See MoreDid you grow up in a clean house?
Comments (36)Gosh.... more interesting tales. My mother was the "boy" in a Farm family with 3 girls. She never lifted a finger in the house or to cook; but she knew how to be a good farmer, dairyman, horse trainer etc. etc..... so she wasn't a good housekeeper or cook. Things were clean.... but the clutter and what would be called hoarding today was just amazing. I do believe that "self-sustaining" kinds of people, growing up in the depression DID just save everything. Came the USMC into my life with my marriage and DH's mother having been a perfectionist (and deceased).... I needed to get my act (that I didn't KNOW about) together. We had many 'discussions early in our marriage, and, in order to become a member of the Coffee Klatch Club ( the neighbors) one had to have housecleaning DONE be 9 or 10 am.... and they held impromptu inspections, of course, (not really, but one would be greatly embarrassed to have dinner dishes in the sink the next day or dirty diapers not taken care of). Thank goodness I was a willing student... not necessarily a quick learner, but I am grateful for the lessons. I never was as good as most military wives on a day to day basis... but I always gave it my best effort, and usually would allow you in the door instead of hide in the bathroom.... and still do.....See MoreFunkyArt got me thinking - What color for MY fence? Comments (8)Well, we're meeting a landscape designer on Saturday...but I was thinking of a red/purple/white/orange color scheme, sort of like this (color wise.) We are going for the whole english/cottage garden vibe. This is a pretty accurate depiction of the house color (at least on my monitor, ha) I does it matter that the entrance to the yard, where those new steps are, will have an arbor with a moon gate? (painted white.) Well since I wouldn't want the fence that is facing out to the street (what I see from outside the yard) and what is next to the house, or the shed, to be painted brown or some natural color, could I just paint the portion behind the trumpet vine something to blend in? I wish I had better pictures to show but really I think my only options for the outside fence and shed/gate are either the house or trim color. It would look odd otherwise. Maybe if it wasn't too weird they could be black. Or the shed could be black. I spent weeks slaving over the house color. I thought this was going to be easier. ;-)...See MoreMarilyn Sue McClintock
