Don't like my exterior stucco color, need help selecting a color.
Comments (3)When you say the entire front entry way -- do you mean the entire vertical column to the roof -- or just the lower portion with the arch up to the horizontal break line? Either way -- I would go lighter (just the opposite of your idea - sorry). Just like the windows are trimmed in white drawing you to notice them -- I would lighten the entrance area. Alternatively, consider an Exterior Glaze tinted with a slightly Darker Grey (or any color for that matter). This can be applied evenly ... or applied evenly and then brushed over with a clean push-broom (no kidding). The Darker Grey (or accent color) will settle in your stucco pattern but the under Grey color will still show thru making your entrance a subtle difference from everything else but tied together. Long and involved idea (sorry) but I've done this stucco application many, many times with fabulous results (for large interior areas). The technique is exactly the same for Exteriors and you can research it for more details. Good luck....See MoreHelp! I don't think I like my new recessed lights! What to do?
Comments (18)I'm glad to hear that the LED lights are working for you. It sounds like you have a much bigger space than we do, with only 2 more lights. I think this was perhaps our biggest mistake -- just too many of these lights. (As I mentioned, I was worried that LEDs wouldn't put out enough light). Maybe if we had only installed 4 of them, the amount of light would be ok. To reduce the number to 4 at this point would require completely re-placing the lights and rewiring. I wonder also if the increased number of lights in our smaller space is amplifying the effect of the flickering? i.e. maybe it wouldn't be noticeable if the lights were further apart? The housing and dimmer switch we have are both on the compatible list on the Cree website. All 7 of the lights are connected to the same dimmer switch. So I'm not sure what the problem is. When they are on at full power, they don't buzz or flicker. We had friends over yesterday and at full power they thought the lights looked great. (It wasn't too bright for them). Then I dimmed them and they didn't think the buzzing was too bad. They also didn't really notice much flickering. But then I started waving my arms around and they were shocked. The strobe effect when the lights were dimmed made my kitchen seem like a disco! Cbjmidwood, when you dim your lights and wave your arms around, is there any strobing?...See MoreNeed help choosing exterior paint color. We don't like pink!
Comments (5)Are you looking for color blocking? I see it in your inspiration photos. If you do then you should try the home decorating forum. I am not a fan of color blocking myself, but they know all about it....See MoreHelp! Don't like my Stain Color
Comments (24)@JKH, just found this thread because of the same heartbreaking issue, what did you end up doing? Any advice? I feel the exact same way about my floors, was going for a custom stain on the darker side, but didn't want too dark, and wanted more gray tones than brown. See pics below of what I was I going for and what the floors needed up looking like (the sample looked ok on the floor when they finally got close enough, which was a painful process-lighter than we wanted but seemed in the same realm, but now looks totally different across the whole floor). Some angles look ok, but others are just strait up red brown which is literally my least favorite hardwood look, just a preference. I also ordered select white oak and got way more charactered boards than I anticipated, I wasn't expecting so much variation...contractor assured me it was select...but there were knots in a few boards, pushed as hard as I could and had to just move forward.! Anyway, just curious as to what some folks end up doing. How do I get the look I'm going for, are my expectations to our of what for what I want? Everyone, including the hubs says they look good, but they're just not what I wanted, no where near the look or my personal style. Wall colors, fireplace, etc. will be changing, but won't make me like the floors. Not sure I can live with them, but we also were on a timeline. Is it easier to sand newly stained floors, shorter process to sand and re-stain without the install and with new boards? Thanks everyone for any feedback!!...See Morepbeq111
