Comments (13)My sister and I just bought the Best home Furnishings hattie reclining sofa for our newly purchased beach condo: http://www.besthf.com/best/Furniture/Sofas/Reclining/HATTIE-COLL Wish the seat depth was a little more. Other than that, we like it very much. I love that it has the little buttons on the side that make it move rather than a remote, Some stores only wanted to offer it in four fabrics, but we found a store that offered the entire fabric collection to choose from. We chose Dune 20969....See MoreChoosing leather for sofa and recliner (H&M or B-Y), questions
Comments (16)We've decided to go with Hancock and Moore because of the construction of the frame, amongst other considerations. I've gotten some good advice from Duane (formerly of this site and now on his own site) and others (thanks to the replies here, too) and now feel a little bit more educated on Leather 101. We went to FLS but they didn't have a Journey. And because we were there, we browsed pretty much everywhere else and got tired and came straight home, thinking we'd made a decision (on leather color) until I read about problems with the 'Document' line (color sometimes rubbing off), and so I learned more--about protected and unprotected leathers and such. Still wanting to sit in a Journey chair or sofa, I called around. The only place I can find one is Boyles, 2 yrs away. Gee, I changed my mind from fabric to leather thinking there would be fewer decisions. I couldn't seem to commit to a fabric type / style / color, etc. I MUST make a decision and take advantage of H&M's winter sale....See MoreHow to decorate around the recliner sofa.
Comments (14)There's no need to try to make them look smaller. They're wonderfully comfortable and invite one to come sink right in, but their oversized presence could be played down by making them stand out less. What you could do is paint the walls a similar color so both pieces blend back into the walls. I've done that and it's a wonderfully effective trick for smaller rooms and also for turning chaotic rooms into comfy serene places to relax. It often helps to do something similar with the floor also, incorporating it as part of the calming, simplified background. Google "monochromatic" rooms for ideas. Your room would be medium values like the sofas. As it happens this is an era of "light" values, so most monochrome pictures are of pastel or white/off white monochrome schemes--like the very attractive monochrome living room Everdebz posted. But rooms in medium color ranges are out there to find. Walls in a blending beige/brown hue would be the strongest way to play this trick, but you could also use a color that was instead similar in lightness-darkness, like a medium blue, so they were similar in "value." If the sofa stood out against test patches as noticeably lighter or darker, a lighter or darker color would be needed. It's about camouflage, sinking back into the woods. Then accessorize and accent. This one's VERY monochrome, thank goodness for the blue in the rug. :) It suggests the comfort of your room though. The room below is fairly large and they wanted the airiness and energy of sparkling white contrasting with the walls. But this room could easily instead have been taken a somewhat calmer, more relaxing direction of the one above by either lessening the amount of strong light-dark contrast or perhaps toning it down by replacing it with a mellower off-white....See MoreSo the only place that I feel the double reclining couch will look goo
Comments (22)Manon Floreatyou have a great way with words! cd7733I thought the exact same thing. I have one young child and one very adventurous child. Suzyq, is it safe to assume the floor board heaters are not able to be covered? Are you purchasing this sofa new or moving an existing one into this space? Seems like two accent chairs in front of the spindles and an in-line couch adjacent to the fireplace, facing the window would be your best option....See Morekulrn
