More info: TFC (Temp File Cleaner) will clear out all temp folders for all user accounts (temp, IE temp, java, FF, Opera, Chrome, Safari), including Administrator, All Users, LocalService, NetworkService, and any other accounts in the user folder. It also cleans out the %systemroot%\temp folder and checks for .tmp files in the %systemdrive% root folder, %systemroot%, and the system32 folder (both 32bit and 64bit on 64bit OSs). It shows the amount removed for each location found (in bytes) and the total removed (in MB). Before running, it will stop Explorer and all other running applications. When finished, if a reboot is required the user must reboot to finish clearing any in-use temp files. -- TFC only cleans temp folders. -- TFC will not clean URL history, prefetch, or cookies. Depending on how often someone cleans their temp folders, their system hardware, and how many accounts are present, it can take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or more. TFC will completely clear all temp files where other temp file cleaners may fail.

I still had lots of food in the house, but DH told me to go ahead and stock up since he'll probably be on the road for 5-6 weeks this time and the immediate future of our para-transit sytem is iffy at best right now due to budget cuts. (We won't know its fate until March 19. On the 22nd, we'll either have it or it's immediately gone.) So, hey, I'm no dummy. I stocked up. The store isn't going to carry them anymore. So we got two each of those. And I had coupons for two free bottles of laundry soap that expire at the end of the month, so I got those now. Total - too much. OTOH, I'm set for another 4-5 weeks except highly perishable items like lettuce or milk. (Althogh I have some canned milk if I really need it.) That doesn't include the things we get for DH to take on the road as I consider his road supplies separate from my grocery budget.

MrsPete, there are certainly times when I'd like to swap my fridge and freezer sides. Not for long, just a few days. Sometimes I need more fridge space, but not often enough to warrant another fridge. I can't remember a time when I've wanted more fridge space AND at the same time had excess freezer space. And I certainly wouldn't want to pay more (lots more) for this option. If you really need extra fridge space occasionally, you can pick up a dorm-sized cube refrigerator for $50 (less if you buy used) and store it in the attic when you're not using it. It would be great if the trash and recycling could take care of themselves - not sure it that will ever happen. Now that would be great, but I can't see how it could happen. Was there a requirement that the question be answered with moves forward in function? That's a fair question. I think we all want better function from our kitchens, but perhaps the real question is, What constitutes better function as we move into the future? For some people it might be a faster way to cook prepackaged foods ... and that might lead into a desire for healthier options in prepackaged foods, which isn't a kitchen question but is certainly related. They seemed to expect the food to cook itself and the dishes to clean themselves. Put it into perspective; consider the reality of cooking just prior to that article. Compared to peeling your own potatoes, canning your own green beans, and baking your own bread ... frozen dinners and canned food served on paper plates IS food that cooks itself and dishes that clean themselves. I would like a "Cone of Silence" for my exhaust hood. Now that sounds both useful and possible. I bet we will have home 3-D food printers. I saw that they demonstrated one for pizzas down at OSU the other day. Thing is, you can't create something out of nothing. Even if you had a Star Trek type replicator, you'd still have to load in pizza sauce and cheese -- at least at home. Perhaps a mall food court could feature a "replicate your own pizza machine", which could make your pizza to order -- but someone in the back'd have to load up the ingredients.

I think this would be great if a whole airport concourse were like this. The calculus of how late is your plane vs. how long it will take to get something to eat makes one stressed out and cranky, as well as hungry. If you could just walk up to a display wall, grab a few things and walk off, how great would that be? If Amazon were able to get a contract that allowed them to sell magazines and toothpaste as well as food, how much the better! I'm guessing it would work well in train stations, too, and the lobbies of giant office buildings. OTOH, do they even have fresh produce? I suppose it can all be preweighed and sold by the bag or box for the convenience store concept. Whole fruit sold by the piece. My "convenience store" is Trader Joe's. :) I can't see using something like this for "shopping". That is for a whole cartful of groceries that fills five large bags. Self checkout doesn't even work well for that as there's always something that isn't coded right. Besides which, the grocery clerk is usually a shiny spot of pleasant human interaction, and I see slow, old folks brightening up when talking to the clerk, like it's their only society. It would be a shame to take that away. They'd have to replace them with greeters!
