What style is this gilt mirror?

It seems to be from the 1990s and made of resin or something similar from the Carolina Mirror Corporation. However, I can't place the style. I started thinking Louis IV, Regency, Empire, Louis XIV, Italianate, or just some weird modern attempt at reproducing a traditional style. Any ideas?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. A touch of neoclassical here, a dash of beaux arts there, a little rococo thrown in, and so on. The plinths are urns with some kind of fish tailed dragons. I got it for $65 in a small town in Mississippi and stuck it above a $35 console of equally questionable provenance with feet bigger than mine.

I would say it's Carolina Mirror'as idea of "antique"...sort of Renaissance Revival meets Doric, crossed with a couple of Louis'

Seriously, trtsmb gave you good advice. The latest and greatest will be the first to become embarrassingly dated. Get what you like and forget about trendy, unless you plan to redo the bath every five years or so.

What about this one? It has the brushed nickel finish of the wall mount of the sconce, pulls out at the corners to hint at the diagonal trim in the shower, and is simple enough not to fight with the sconces. Kind of has a free-flying feeling as the sconces do as well. The only thing that I would think about was trying to paint the corner balls in a gold finish to echo the round gold things on the wings, but then in the silver they echo the antennae feeling on the sconces. quoizel jasper mirror I wouldn't worry all that much about the diagonal accent tile in the shower. No one will notice, since they are all the same color. Once you get everything in place in the bath, the shower walls become background, especially when they are plain white tile. That said, I think I would insist that the contractor change those, if it really bothers you. If he did that without your okay, it is simply not your problem nor your cost if you insist they be done as in the plan.

It is what it seems to be....What I thought was wear on the back is blue accents...painted over the gilt. I think I would remove the needle point and clean it and replace it....with more padding under it....and perhaps re tie the springs.....just so they are secure. and I wouldn't do anything else......perhaps rub off the flakes and put some paste wax over what's there. It's a great chair...If it is "of the period" it would be either very late 18th century or very early 19th. The fancy decoration at the top makes me think it's later.

Looks great...I guess....but everything else I see in that room looks genuine!...Narrow board flooring. leaded glass door classical woodwork.....and RED walls! Awesome...mix some questionable with the real and it all looks good!
Just don't let anyone touch that mirror...tell them "parcel gilt is fragile!" Most people will think it's a $600 item!

I think 'Italianate' is a good term, since that just means "Italian in character or appearance"

The dividing lines between the different styles seem to be pretty fluid. If someone realizes that the mirror actually may be a mixture of styles, they just need another drink. Thank you for the advice and compliments everyone. I started off going for a neoclassical look, which explains the Pompeian red walls and the moldings, but then I began coming across these older Renaissance and Rococo inspired pieces of furniture, as well as French tapestries. Since we are outside of France and living in an age where few people interest themselves in such matters, do you think it is OK to mix different related architectural and furniture styles?

I have seen some amazing abominations, though with mixing stuff badly!!
If done well it's called eclectic...if done badly it's kitch.

When you take a 8ft tall pier mirror and scale it down disproportionately, you get this overly-dense thing.

That flat bottom certainly looks like it originally sat on top of something. You may want to contact Gardner Glass Products to see if someone there knows anything about it as they have past ties to Carolina Mirror Corporation.

Yes, I did find pictures of somewhat similar pier mirrors. It could be a shrunken version, especially being as it does look like it is made to sit on top of a console table (or floor, if it was full size). I sent Gardner Glass an email to see if they know anything about it. Thanks for the ideas.
