I'm not saying this to be mean, but perhaps she picks up on your neediness and it unsettles her? How old is she now?

It's understandable that your feelings would be hurt but it's probably way too early to be concerned about this behavior. Children's affections and behavior change over time. If she's more interested in other people than you, don't worry about it as long as she enjoys her time with you when it's just the two of you. If she's a young child then don't worry if she cries for her other grandma to pick her up from school. If she's older than kindergarten then maybe something is wrong, but then again it may be just a phase. If she's enjoying her time with you when it's just the two of you then try not to worry about it.

If your granddaughter doesn't enjoy her time with you when it's just the two of you, then try to put any preconceived notions about what she likes and doesn't like out of your head and pay attention to what she actually does enjoy. Not just the activities but also the personalities she responds well to.

If your granddaughter is picking up on any neediness then that won't go well for you, not now and not later, either.

If I were you I wouldn't go without so that she can have. Children sometimes value material things on the surface but what they remember as they grow up isn't the shiny toy Grandma gave them but the love and acceptance Grandma gave them. My favorite grandmother was the grandmother who never gave me a single toy ever, never gave me clothes or birthday gifts or money. My favorite relatives were always the ones who were kind to me, or particularly interesting, or particularly funny.

Good luck with your granddaughter. I hope you have many, many wonderful memories ahead with her.

Perhaps you overpower her with your need . By that I mean you are always in her face. Kids always gravitated to my husband. He'd always sit back and let them come to him. Once they did he could give them hugs and play with them. Don't deprive yourself to give her things. Things are not the way to a child's love. Excessive things make a child greedy. When she gets older she'll be asking for bigger things because she knows that grandma is a pushover. Buy gifts for Birthdays and Christmas. Anything you buy in between should be small and cheap and what interests the child.

Try this the next time you are with her babysitting. Find a toy and take it off to a corner of the room within eyesight of the child and start playing with it. Ignore the child and make your play interesting. See if she comes to you. Maybe backing off a bit is what you need. Be warm and accepting but not in her face

I was thinking maybe my GD picks up on that. And her blatant rejection makes it much worse. I try to be cheerful when she's around. And I am mostly. But sometimes the brokeness inside hard to deal with. And she's very hung up on physical beauty (: that I'm not.

So she is into beauty...will mom and dad let you paint her nails? Thats always fun for kids...would she sit still long enough for a nail salon visit? Maybe play dress up...head to the thrifts and find some fancy clothes to play with.

My favorite things i remember doing with my gramma was making cookies, doing jigsaw puzzles and playing games.

Three year olds are often emotional, (just getting over the 'terrible two's) It is possible that she tells the other grandma that she wants you to pick her up so don't let something like that get to you. You sound like a terrific grandma.

Focus on healing yourself from the divorce. By doing that, you are actually helping your grand daughter. Some time during her early years she will inevitably have questions about relationships and maybe have difficulties with her friends or lose a friendship, show her that one is not defined by such difficulties, that will help her for the rest of her life.
