Are my potted palnts over worked with light and fertizer?
Comments (9)That is just the answer I needed or should say I was hoping to hear.. Thanks for the reasurance. Thanks so much Al! I am growing in the same soilless mix as you suggested, and after all this time using this soil, I have yet to loose one plant to root rot. To the shock of bringing them indoors and trying to help them get use to growing without the great outdoors, that is a different story. Still working on it though. Still getting alot of leaf drop on my citrus, and most of all my gardenia. I think the drooping has finally slowed down though!! Therefore I definately appreciate your help. I am growing all plants in leaf. All are tropical. So I will continue to feed. I have mostly gardenias, citrus, and a few palms and brovardias..... As for the temps wantonfly, my room stays pretty warm even in winter unheated. Sometimes I have to crack a window open even in winter, but it lets the humidity in their escape to the outdoors, so I do not like doiing that to often. It is attached to my home. It can be the warmest room in house because of humidity, and the fact it is the only room to face the south all day with two windows in it. Even the lights warm the room. Why If I kept the lights on all day, that room can warm to the high 80's with the windows shut in winter. I in fact try to keep the temps cool to about the 70's by keeping the lights off in midday and timing them to come on for a couple of hours before sun hits window, then a couple after sun leaves window. Heat from the 3 lights and sun...whoooh!! It is like walking into the Carribean once I open the door to that room. In fact I like walking spending most my time in there watching games in my short with my nice plants with the waterfalls in the backround..LOL The down side keeping the room warmer than this, which would feel great in the dead of winter is that unwanted pests would like to join my party and attack all my foilage friends. Last year I kept this room way to warm, and as a result had unwanted mites and well forget it...bad memories!. So far so good this year though. The room is just warm, not hot. So in short, the room gets into the 70's by day, and high 50's to 60 by night without heater turned on. I guess perfect growing conditions, even good enough to feed my plants all winter such as Al says. My soil is made by his suggestion, and as a result, I NEVER have a salt build up in my pots, and the best part, no root rot even in the dead of winter, along with no pests. Thanks again Al for clearifying me on fertilization and to know the difference between plants that need rest and those that don't. Those can we can continually feed, and those that we shouldn't. Hope you are well by the way!!! You are a great teacher. Take care..:-)..Hope this helped everyone else out there who grow with lights all winter and want to see their plants in constant growth with great results....I personally like to see my plants GROWING healthy not only in summer, but in winter too to chase our blues away!!...See MoreMay I join your party?
Comments (19)Hi Melenie Welcome to the forum. As Cathy (Mustangs) says, I hope you get to meet some of us IRL. We really are a great group. I guess I am picky in that I don't eat meat, but I love fish and do eat poultry on occasion. DH and the kids eat meat but lucky for me not very often and even less often once DH made the announcement about a year ago the he wanted to go vegetarian. That sent me into a flat out tailspin, but he recovered and so did I and the result is that he does the cooking way more than me now and it is mostly vegetarian with meat maybe once or twice a month. I'm a fab baker though and love to do it whenever I get the chance. Glad you joined us and looking forward to seeing more of you....See MoreGrouting party want to join?
Comments (21)I missed this post some how! Gretch your stepping stones will look great in the area you said they were going in. I shuddered when I saw the amount you had to grout. I tend to stress myself out when I have too much to grout at once! Its a good thing you don't mind!! Your pond and bamas are really cool. We have talked about one but have yet to do one. They harley table design is way cool! Happy grouting!!!!...See MoreMy Pity Party
Comments (37)My Aunt passed in August..her services at gravesite are this Monday..her Grandaughter flew in from Arizona last night and got a hotel room in town..how in the world did I have this in my date book for NEXT week..not that I really have to do anything except show up Monday morning for services and Monday evening for family dinner at a local resturant..but still I would have liked to offer to host them for a luncheon today....lol...not happening. My Aunt Jean who passed is the last of that generation (my moms side) they all moved here from London years ago. Now its just a few from this generation and some younger ones...anyway I think my cousin told me the wrong date and its just like her to be scatterbrained..so I'll let her do the hosting which is what I just told her on the phone..lol..she took it well. You would think with all the laying around I've done I'd be full of energy..not. I think I need to move my old bones around a little today. I won't do much but just a little in case my scatterbrained cousin decides to bring my cousin from Arizona in for a surprise visit..yes she would do that to me. Lol. Hope you are all well today....See More- 9 years ago
