Hi, I've been reading the garden forums for several years. Then a couple of months ago I found the home forums and have really enjoyed the posts and picked up a log of great tips. I just happened to scroll down and see the rest of the topics a couple of weeks ago.

It looks like you have some great cooks in the group! I've seen several recipes posted here to try. I love reading recipes and trying new things - have over 100 cookbooks. My new husband says I'm a good cook if he can keep me reined in on the "weird ingredients". He doesn't really like wine, nuts, spicy or crunchy food - but is willing to try everything. New stepson will eat almost anything as long as there is lots of it.

Wwlcome Melenie!....Tell your "new" husband that after he tries it a few times nothing is weird any more!
My goodness....no wine nuts, spicy or crunchy....that leaves....pretty much oatmeal!

As for your husband, well, weird is all in your perspective. (grin) Ashley thinks it's weird that I like chicken livers and I think it's weird that she'll eat cream of mushroom soup RIGHT OUT OF THE CAN! EWWWW.

So cook away, your new husband will likely get used to it!

Thank you all for your warm welcome. I would have answered sooner, but I decided to find out why the GW hates my ellipses. So I grabbed up my trusty axe to chop my way through the dense jungle of complex computerese to find out. (Do the Nerds really have to talk like they do on the web? I wonder if they're just showing off.) Anyway, it turns out that Linux does not shake hands with Microsoft when they process ellipses. I don't know what Linux did to annoy you Mr. Gates, but I wish that you two would makeup and get this straightened out. I have decided that there are ways to get around this - short of switching to Microsoft. Maybe if I just complete my sentences without using an ellipise, but I rather like the dangling, airiness of them. I could type out the word ellipis or perhaps typing period comma space, period comma space, period may trick the computer. But maybe it would be easier just to get used to Ã¯Â¿Â½. If this were audio, I imagine its what the bleep used to cover up a naughty word would look like. Again, thank you

Hello, all. pdsavage... sounds to me as if you are I are in big trouble! But I have nowhere near 100 kinds of seeds, so I'm feeling relief, in a way, to hear you. I also have very limited room... woke up this morning wondering what in the world I'm going to do with all those germinated seeds when they have to be potted on! Only a few can go in my garden. Gonna have a lot to give away! Hi, Lois. I don't have seedlings yet, but can definitely manage that much sunshine when I do. Thanks for the advice! Drippy, you're right. It still is fairly warm here, at least, during the daytime. Getting kind of chilly at night, though. My purported first frost is November 22, but realistically, we get very few frosts here, and the ones we do get usually don't last any longer than a night. So I'm planning on planting the bulk of my seeds on or just after the Winter Solstice. Thank you for the sun/shade advice. I think I'll put the olive and bay out of direct sun for now, as it can still get HOT during the days. Once again, thanks for welcoming me!

Oh...very pretty tablesettings. Love the Battenberg placemats and also your Matalasse. They really compliment your Mikasa so well. I like how you used the Candlesticks with the Cloche for a centerpiece. You're right..white is such a fresh clean look, and your's is just that. You have a beautiful Dining Room. Dang it I really was hoping to be moved by then, but I don't think so. (Moving to Dallas EVENTUALLY) It would be great to meet some of you since I don't know anyone in TX. Maybe I can time my next visit to DH around this? Or maybe by some miracle my house here in FL will actually SELL. UGH.

Welcome from me too Melenie! My DH is pretty good but he doesn't do spicy at all , not even a bit of course spicy is my favopurite !!

We are a really fun group here and love it when new people join us. As has been said, weird is everyones own opinion. My DH loves Brussell Sprouts but wont eat cabbage. Go figure LOL!

My DH also prefers I keep the "weird ingredients" to a minimum... but since I have trouble with that I'm happy to make him something else. He says, "don't make something special for me!" and I reply, "I'm actually making something special for me" and he can have it x-weird ingredients! Spaghetti sauce is an example... I usually make two batches... his, and his plus the extra stuff I'm putting in mine with his... :-)

One person's weird is another person's normal. My husband will pretty much eat anything. I'm the picky one.

Welcome Melenie - love the way you spell your name!

My husband is very picky too. And my 14 yr old son as well. I've tried out all kinds of new recipes on them and sometimes it's a hit and sometimes it's a miss. But at least they try it. But I don't let it bother me, I just ignore them and have my fun in the kitchen.

Welcome Melenie. Lots of excellent cooks on this forum. The amazing thing to me is that some of these same excellent cooks are picky eaters and voice it regularly.lol My DH is the picky one...I have very few dislikes and it shows! On the other hand, I'm not an exxcellent cook either, but I am inspired by what so many are cooking and doing it well.

Oh...and excellent food photography..enough to make you drool!

I'll say I'm not a picky eater, but then, DH will point out that yes I am, because I'm vegetarian. I have to admit he's right, but I'll eat almost anything as long as it didn't have a mother. DH actually will eat anything, to my delight, and so will my son, but DIL and grandson are different stories. It's a challenge to feed them something they'll eat, as they're on the "P" diet - if it doesn't start with the letter P, such as, Pizza, Pasta, or Peanut butter. they won't eat it. lol.

Welcome, Melenie. You will find some of the greatest people on here and the recipes and all just keep coming. I also like that when you need the answer to a problem, someone usually can help. DH is the picky one and I'll eat just about anything except rutabaga.

Welcome to the forum. As Cathy (Mustangs) says, I hope you get to meet some of us IRL. We really are a great group.

I guess I am picky in that I don't eat meat, but I love fish and do eat poultry on occasion. DH and the kids eat meat but lucky for me not very often and even less often once DH made the announcement about a year ago the he wanted to go vegetarian. That sent me into a flat out tailspin, but he recovered and so did I and the result is that he does the cooking way more than me now and it is mostly vegetarian with meat maybe once or twice a month.

I'm a fab baker though and love to do it whenever I get the chance.

Thank you all so much! I'm looking forward to getting to know everybody and reading more about your cooking. We like to make stews and casseroles and sometimes I'll bake a really complicated cake.
I bought a copy of the Cake Bible a few months ago, but so far I've only tried one cake from it. There was a thread on here with the most beautiful cake covered with icing roses. The recipe sounded delicious, but the roses looked so hard to do.
