Mystery wildflower! I'm stumped!
Comments (7)Thanks for the resource - I've bookmarked it. Unfortunately, my flower is not there either. So far, I've ruled out Krigia, Sonchus, any kind of dandelion, false dandelion, hawkweed or goat's beard. It definitely didn't have basal leaves, for starters. I saw two examples of this flower about 70 yards apart at a campground in the Finger Lakes National Forest (moist woodland) in central NY state. They were not numerous. In habit and leaves, it was very reminiscent of garlic mustard - that was what made me do a double take. (see garlic mustard here: http://www.ipaw.org/invaders/garlic_mustard/gm_flower_lg.jpg) - but obviously with a flower like that, it's not in the mustard family. It would seem to be in the aster family - and the flower sort of reminded me of a small, delicate yellow chicory bloom. I'm trying to find an aster genus that would have leaves like that, though....See MoreChosing interior colors and I'm stumped
Comments (9)It can be very frustrating to pick out paint colors without having something to go off of-an overall color scheme or inspiration piece -an area rug, fabric or art piece. So when we are faced with doing it for a whole house when we may or may not be using our old things it can be very tough. I commend you for getting so far with your choices and being happy with them! Sometimes the 'problem' with and individual choice is not just a legititmate 'will it work?' but the fear of commitment as well. In concept our choices are great but in reality we are committed once we actually start painting. Without actually seeing all of the colors, knowing the lighting and the flow of the floorplan I can't comment on the actual colors, so... What I would encourage you to do is stick with all the colors you really feel work, paint those areas first and then tackle the guest bath. Paint is one of the easiest things to fix, especially in a relatively small space like a bathroom. Then you can experiment with the colors you would like in in the guest bath. Often a color that is not a 'dead on' match will be more interesting than one that matches exactly with your fabric. Once the colors you like are up you will have a more realistic feel for the intensity and hue you need in the guest bath. Your toile is lovely and it would be a shame not to make use of it! Good Luck!...See MoreKitchen Design - I'm stumped.
Comments (26)Synlight, you're going to love your new home. Even basic builder homes have some pretty nice stuff these days. I actually like the bottom row of counter samples significantly better than the top, and they definitely seem more sophisticated to me. As for dark-light, it's wide open to the rest of the living areas. I'd try not to vary too much from the light-dark balance in the rest of the area so it all comes together nicely as a whole, no big dark block weighing down a corner of a mostly light room, say. My first thought on how to make it as functional as possible is in the answer to where you will find yourself doing most of your preparation for cooking; for myself I always plan around that since it will become the center of my kitchen, everything else relating to that. You have lots of possibilities. Your stove is far from the sink and the nice expanses of counter over there but has good work space on each side. The island doesn't strike me as a probable place for main prep, but it is a possibility, also between sink and fridge, and less likely to left of the sink, although you certainly have a lot of space there. You probably will also do lunches and snacks and that might take place in a second area, perhaps on the island close to the fridge or counter by the fridge? BTW, did you mean you'd ask about switching the stove to the fridge area? I think that'd be good if you could as you could work close to the sink and not have to cross traffic with hot food and liquids. If you can't switch the stove and fridge, how about asking them NOT to fasten the island down and doing that yourselves later? Or maybe just being there and telling them just where you want it after experimenting? There's probably not much room for shifting it, but even inches might make a happy difference as you move from sink to stove areas. I.e., whether you use it a whole lot or not, you'd like it to obstruct that path as little as possible....See MoreLiving Room interior design has me stumped
Comments (5)I actually like the way you have it set up now. You do need to add accessories: lighting, art, a few more pillows, and drapes to soften the room. Add lighting to the sofa console too, along with a few books and other items. Don't crowd it, but it needs something to warm it up. I would add one more chair as someone posted above to make it a conversation area. Add the chair in front of the window facing the sofa area. The only piece of furniture that i would change is the TV console. It is too short and too high IMO. Go with something long and low and remove that small end table that is in the corner next to the tv console. ^ I like the floating console look, but you can also get a long freestanding console. In this particular application, the back wall is painted (near) black so the TV blends into the wall....See MoreFlo Mangan
