There is good mixing and there is bad mixing. In your case, brushed chrome will blend with pewter knobs - they won't be right next to each other. imo, SS has become a neutral - anything goes. A polished chrome faucet might be a pain to keep clean or clean looking. I don't think you have to switch to polished knobs... unless you really love and want them. What is your cabinet finish(es)? I have 2 paint finishes and 1 stain in the main kitchen area. A 3rd paint on hutch between kitchen and laundry room. I have 2 knob selections in the kitchen. 3rd on the hallway hutch. 2 counter choices in the kitchen, with 3rd on the hallway hutch. ORB faucet, SS range, copper hood. UCL is best for task lighting. In addition, it can effectively replace the main lighting under certain circumstances - early morning, late at night. If you want a soft light, the light output color should be 2700k. UCL Installation would be greatly helped if your kitchen cabinets have flat undersides without any interrupting fences. The rough rule of thumb I used for my kitchen was ~35 lumens per sq ft. Total area * 35 gives you the total illumination required. Divide the total by the output of each can (assume 600 or 500+ lumens per can) if all the lighting is envisaged to come from the recessed cans. A normal 60W incandescent bulb outputs ~ 800 lumens, but when put inside a can, the effective output is significantly reduced. If you use a LED recessed can light such as the LR6 or CR6, the lighting will be superior to a standard recessed can light (incandescent or CFL). Recessed cans are typically spaced ~ 4' apart. However, if necessary, the spacing could be reduced to 3' for areas such as the kitchen. The recessed can in the keeping room could be replaced with some surface mount / chandelier/ pendant.

Bellsmom, Thank you for your courteous concern about not posting too many images in one thread. It is a problem for people, like me, with slow connection speeds. The way it works (here on GW) with a slower connection is that the whole thread must load before any part of it can be seen. Even then, after a certain amount of imagery has been rec'd, all additional images and text appear as boxes with x's in them. If one has the patience and determination to see them all, then repeated refreshes will gradually bring out all the images, but at the cost of the time need to download the whole thread repeatedly. I appreciate you making the effort to lighten the images, as well. Very few people take the trouble to do so, but it really helps. I haven't tried your other thread, yet. As a rule when I see a thread which advertises lots of pics, I skip it. There is one that's been poking around for awhile (the one that has fnished kitchen pics and "beer, too"). That one is so image-heavy I have never been able to get it open! Rural life has many advantages, but fast internet connection speed is not one of them. L.

I've come to prefer the flow of rooms painted the same color throughout my home, but I really like the palette you've chosen. I think Tidewater, while a slight departure, is still a complement to your scheme. Very pretty.
