Shower being tiled as we speak - should this bother me?
Comments (37)Nails versus screws really does not matter. You need to know if: 1) a waterproofing material (usually 6-mil sheet polyethylene plastic) was put on the walls before the cement board was installed. REASON: Tile and grout are not necessarily waterproof. Water can get through the grout, trust me, and through the cement board. Cement board is not damaged by water, but water can pass through it. When it does get through it you want that wate to hit something waterproof...like ployethylene...and not drywall, which will wet crumble, and fail. If you have no barrier like poly behind the cement board, then you have a code violation. Plain and simple. 2) Same with the half wall. Cement board, tile and grout will not keep water from getting to the framing beneath. You need something more. That wall will rot out. That is a code violation. 3) Will there be a topical waterproofing like RedGard put on the cement board that makes up the niches? If not, you'll be admitting water into those framing bays. Rot. Mold. And yes, without a barrier you have yet another code violation. 4) If you stand on the floor membrane, is it sloped to the drain or is it flat? If flat, you have a code violation. Creating a slope with a layer of mud will give you a preslope, but that still does not cut it. A membrane sitting flat on a subfloor is a code violation. And again, in your very first picture, that flap of membrane that is flapping out in front of your cement board? That needs to be behind the cement board, and the (non-existent?) poly sheeting behind the cement board should lap on top of that membrane. What dies that add up to? Yup, another water intrusion point and yet another code violation. I hope this works out for you, but I'd also use this shower a lot when you move in so any problems with it occur while your homeowners warranty is still in effect. Keep an eye on the curb, on the walls and on the ceiling below for any signs of water damage. ALso keep an eye on the floor tile itself, if it ever starts drying unevenly, that's yet another warning sign. Oh, and using cement board instead of greenboard? That's nothing to be overly proud of either since using greenboard as a tile backer in a shower is also...did you guess...a code violation. Greenboard was prohibited as a tile backer over two years ago. Best, Mongo...See MoreRemakes of Classic Movies
Comments (16)Watched a remake of "It Happened One Night" with Claudet Colbert and Clark Gable. It was just two days ago and already I forget the name of the remake. It starred Jack Lemon and June Allison. It held pretty much to the story line, but it's hard to beat Clark Gable and Claudet Colbert. I would say its getting near time for a remake of the remake!! Also I remember being halfway though the remake of A Love Affair with Cary Grant and Jean Kerr...the Warren Beatty and Annette Benning movie....before I realized it was even the same movie!...See MoreWhy don't women want a nice guy???
Comments (43)angelheart7 has a point. We try to describe it in a hundred different ways. Your level of confidence, if you are assertive or go for what you want in life (which was mentioned about nice guys not being aggresive) as well as being TOO aggresive (which someone else mentioned and felt it was a catch22) But, it's really not. The extreme of either is going to be less attractive, and as angelheart7 pointed out, it really does have more to do with that positive energy that you give out that other people can sense. It's not just about women/men relationships either. It's something that any other human can sense about you. Some people call it karma, some call it self fulfilling prophesies, auras, and who knows what else. The reason people say go exercise, is because this tends to increase confidence and energy which means you start acting differently. You walk around feeling good about yourself, looking cheerful and happy which then makes you a more positive person for people to want to be around. It doesn't have to be exercise, it could be any hobby or activity that makes you feel good about life. A few people have made really good points as well in regards to what it means to be a "nice guy". There's a difference between a guy who is nice, respectful, with a lively personality, a love for life, motivation and inspiration.. and a guy who is a rug and will let the girl he is interested in step all over him because he's "nice" and doesn't want to rock the boat. Girls DO like nice guys, but they don't like rugs. I don't know and of you guys who posted personally, so i can't give any specific insight as to why one guy in particular is coming across wrong to women or why they are not interested. It is much much more complicated than simply being "nice" or "not nice". There are so many different definitions of what it means to be nice. And it still depends on what girls you are aiming at as well. What it is they are looking for in a partner, and the body language signals you are giving in return. Maybe being nice is your best quality? Who knows! fyi as an interesting side note, they've done scientific research as well that shows women are attracted to more "cave man" types which are the rugged square faced guys (bad boys) when they are more likely to get pregnant, and attracted to guys with softer more feminine features otherwise. (guys who are more likely to stick around and raise the kids theory). So, it's true there is a lot of chemical stuff going on between men and women as well that we are usually unaware of. More than we realize....See MoreWhy so many repeats on tv?
Comments (31)I do like sport, I've played golf, tennis, volleyball, I ride horses, go swimming, etc but for fun, I don't like competitive sports when winning is everything. It shouldn't matter who wins or loses, it is having fun and learning to work together and support each other. I am more impressed by the person who stops to help someone who has fallen than the one who wins. I think that is more important - caring for others. "We have medicare and people who attend public hospitals and who pass a means test get their treatment paid for .FULL STOP!" Yes if you're prepared to wait years for a hospital bed. We have private medical insurance (which we can't afford) so we don't have to wait 3 - 5 yrs or more in pain for a hospital bed. It doesn't matter whether it is self-inflicted from drugs, etc or sports, it is still self-inflicted and avoidable in many cases. Yes they do deserve treatment but so do people who are sick or injured by accidents that aren't preventable. What I was mainly saying in the first place is why do other stations have to play repeats when these other shows are on. I am not just talking about the com games, but football, etc. Putting the games on is fine and people can watch if they want, it is the other stations I'm talking about. Not everybody watches the games or footy or whatever. I just can't see why other stations have to put on repeats, I thought they were rivals and supposed to vie for viewers. We thought about pay tv once but we don't watch enough to make it worthwhile and would've had to pay for a sports station which we don't want anyway. If you read down further you would see that I don't sit in front of the tv much but, like all of us occasionally I like to watch something to relax. Some nights when we aren't working on the books and when the kids are in bed, my husband and I like to cuddle up together and watch something interesting on tv (no, not that sort of thing either). You would also have read that I don't like soaps, reality or romance shows and never watch them. I read alot, much more than the average person - it only takes me an hour or 2 to read an average 2-300page novel, but we don't read all the time and after spending several hours helping with homework, doing bookwork, etc the last thing we feel like doing is more reading. Surely we are entitled to watch tv too. Good on the volunteers, if that is what they want to do that is fine. Congratulations to your daughter for giving up her time, you have obviously thought that I have been insulting her, I haven't. I haven't been personally insulting to you or your family at all. My kids (8yrs, 10yrs, 12ys) volunteer a lot too and I spend a lot of travel time as well as we live out of town. They mainly help at the school - working in the library, garden, etc giving up their lunchtimes, after school time, etc but also other things on weekends helping others - they don't have to and we don't ask them to, they volunteer. No I don't stop them......See More- 8 years ago
