Ok, here's a weird one....a friend just told me today. He eats Frosted Flakes with grated Jarlsberg cheese. Eek!

Saltines on chocolate ice cream is really good.

Mashed potatoes seasoned with Beau Monde in place of salt. The celery seeds add a nice flavor.

My brother-in-law ate cream cheese (or Cheese Whiz) with jelly sandwiches.

I like strawberry preserves on my grilled cheese sometimes. After it's grilled, not inside. I also like to spread jam on toast and top it with a slice of swiss cheese.

Grilled cheese with all sorts of meats and veggies or fruit is also sort of a thing now. They call it grilled cheese but I call them melts.

Putting almost anything on scrambled eggs or in omelets is also quite common here. I live in a diverse area so eating huevos rancheros or loco moco or rice as a breakfast side doesn't seem at all odd to me. It's not uncommon to find more than one type of hot sauce on the breakfast table even in American diners here.

I can post all sorts of things I eat that is common and normal here but middle America might find odd. I carry a small vial of Tejan seasoning in my purse for example.

Bacon and chocolate or vanilla ice cream.

Love grilled cheese with tomatoes. And peanut butter and banana sandwiches. Celery with peanut butter, apple with peanut butter too. Crunchy PB of course.

Some of these don't sound half bad and some of them sound hideous!!!!!LOL!!! Too funny!!

watchme, I had to look up Tajin seasoning. It sounds good as does celery on potatoes and a few others mentioned.

Peanut Butter and Pepperoni Sandwich. My college roommate first showed this to me and it is very good.

Comfort food from my childhood, put a shredded wheat biscuit on a slotted spoon, dip it in boiling water for a few seconds, until it gets soft. Drain. Put in a bowl, cover with pats of butter, slide an over-easy egg on top, add salt. Just had this for dinner a couple of days ago.

Idstarr, I'm intrigued with the pepperoni and peanut butter idea. I just ate lunch, so I'm not going to make a sandwich, but I'm going to go smear a piece of turkey pepperoni with a dab of Jif and see what it tastes like!!! LOL!!

I too like my scrambled eggs with ketchup and also scrambled up with onions, potatoes, sweet peppers too, can add some cheese in there also. Cottage cheese with tomatoes is quite common in this area. I will not eat mashed potatoes unless I have gravy or noodles or dumplings on them.

I like ketchup on my eggs too, scrambled, omelets. I also like a mild salsa with my eggs. I eat over easy eggs on top of rice with soy sauce (my mom was Japanese and we ate this growing up).

A banana spread with peanut butter then topped with Miracle Whip and a few chopped peanuts. A toasted cheese sandwich with dark Karo syrup slathered on after toasting.

Orange marmalade or some kind of jam on pancakes, instead of syrup.

I like olives with my grilled cheese, I like gravy on my scrambled eggs, salsa on rice with some sour cream on the side. SO likes miracle whip salad dressing with pinto beans, peanut butter and crackers with his chili.

Sometimes I used to dip my chips in my soda. Got it from my mom. I also used to put cottage cheese or sour cream in Dinty Moore Beef Stew. Something that is really good is getting those super thin slices of Carl Budding turkey and put some cottage cheese in the middle and roll it up and eat it. Soooo good! :D I also like mixing mayo with barbeque sauce at Chic-fil-a for nuggets. :D

yes to ketchup on scrambled eggs, yes to fries dipped in a vanilla or chocolate shake or soft serve ice cream...try it next time you go by a wendys with their frosty!! Lately I've had a thing for raw carrots with pizza and cooked carrots on spaghetti.

I stir a tablespoon of crunchy almond butter into my bowl of plain yogurt. Yum!

My father used to dip ham and cheese sandwiches in coffee. Not black coffee, but coffee with cream and sugar. :O

We just discovered HP Sauce. Walmart will ship it out of Bentonville to almost anyplace. We are experimenting but it may replace all ketchup.

Cream cheese and sweet gherkin sandwiches on dark rye - cream cheese and green pimento olive sandwiches with butter lettuce on whole wheat (crusts removed for this one). Cold baked bean sandwich on white bread. Hard fried egg sandwich on white bread with mayonnaise, cheddar and thinly sliced sweet onion. I like ketchup on home fries, but prefer salsa on scrambled eggs along with some cheese.

I add onion to my smoothies and veggie juices. I like them savory, not sweet.

Growing up, my brother would make mayo sandwiches. Yes, mayo and bread and nothing else.

I don't use ketchup on anything.

When I was growing up the treat was tea in a mug, with evaporated milk and sugar, to which we added crushed (in half) unsalted Premium Plus crackers which absorbed the liquid - we would then spoon out the soggy crackers and eat! Getting it to the right ratio/consistency was an art in itself.

We called bread with only mayo a "love sandwich" the bread wanted to be so close together there was no room for the meat. I loved turkey sandwiches with butter...

I opened a baby food yesterday that was a mixture of bananas and carrots, seemed odd to me.

lonestar, I made my son's babyfood. Whenever he wouldn't eat something, mix in a bit of banana and it'd disappear. Dunno if it was a texture change or a taste change that did it, but he'd always eat it.

Lonestar, that's a problem with commercial baby food, it's too sweet. I'm sure the banana was added to carrot to make it sweeter. Babies should learn to enjoy different individual flavors and textures as they are. Adding fruit or sweeteners to veggies runs contrary to that thought.

Most types of food for a baby to eat can be easily made at home. That way, you can be sure what is and isn't in it.

I'm a pretty boring eater I guess since I can't think of any weird combinations, but it's been fun reading about some of your quirks. Grape Jelly on sauerkraut???

Loving this post! My dad used to eat Saltines in a bowl with milk poured over it. I tried it but didn't care for it.

My favorite combination is unusual here in US, but absolutely standard in Greece- watermelon and Feta cheese. Heaven on a plate. The saltiness of the cheese against the sweetness of the melon is perfect. There are watermelon and Feta salads these days- but for the real experience, just a hunk of cheese with a wedge of watermelon. One more thing to thank the Greeks for!

since a little girl, I have been eating hot buttered popcorn in a glass of cold milk. You can practically put a full bowl in there. Apparently past generations of my family used to eat this on Sundays. Something about being Mennonites and not being able to cook on that day. My own family thinks I’m nuts but my grandchildren love it too. Hoping to keep the tradition going.

Out in bush Alaska they sold something called Sailor Boy Piolet Bread, sort of like big round thick Saltines without the salt. Good to nibble on with or without something.

natesg, your post reminded me!!! My Mom would eat a piece of leftover cornbread crumbled into a glass of cold buttermilk as a bedtime snack every time we had cornbread with our dinner!

Bananas and carrots are complimentary flavors to me.

Brushworks, you just reminded me that I used to serve a carrot/banana side dish, but I haven't thought of it in years.. maybe it had some honey and nutmeg? It must have been a recipe I found in the 70's or 80's, as that's when I remember making it. The first time I remember eating warm bananas and it was terrific. Oh, and there was lemon juice to keep the bananas from darkening. Hmmm, going to have to see if I can find the recipe.

Carrots and bananas will be something I'll definitely try! For some reason that sounds good !

My old roommate was into peanut butter on hotdogs. Works well. I was tiring of ketchup at that point anyway and it made a great replacement. Still use BBQ sauce but occasionally will get out the PB if I have any. Years later I was making a burger and thought, why not? Goes great on a burger too. However it does melt and get drippy so gotta keep napkins handy. Peanut butter and bacon on toast is always good. But what doesn't bacon make better?
