Looking for ideas for old tile in Bathroom

Scott A

I'm currently in the process of renovating my bathroom and am putting subway tile with black grout into the shower. The original tile wraps all around the bathroom and is square. I'm not too keen on the style or quality, so I'm trying to consider what to do about it. Here are my options:

A. Remove it, mud the surface and paint

B. Remove it, add beadboard/wainscoting

C. Keep it, match height to left of window, add bullnose, paint between new shower tile and old tile (Not doing a transition) and paint grout black throughout old tile.

My goal is to do this as cheaply and efficiently as possible. While I realize option C is the cheapest and most efficient I'm not sure how good it'll look. I like that the toilet and sink water are isolated from the walls with the tile, so painting the walls will leave them subject to accidents from the children. Maybe I can use plywood and make a wainscoting of my own with 4x1 pine trim like this,

But that might be a lot of work. Any suggestions?
