Remodeling Flooring Design Dilemma

I am have a hard time finding a back splash to compliment my kitchen flooring. I am trying inf to stay away from anything trending such as plain subway tile.

I have a client with the same dilemma. They have a herringbone tile floor that looks very similar to yours. They have white cabinets. We chose a back splash tile with a different pattern but with the same color scheme. It also comes in blue. This one is a great pick too because it adds texture to the space. It is a Bedrosian long hex tile.

Plain subway tile is probably the least trendy tile you can choose, IMO you chose a flooring that ctries out for the rest of the space to be simple.

Trend is both, both very good looking and acceptable. You really need to find out which look you prefer--both for itself and for your particular space. Get some old decorating magazines (flea/antique market shops often have a bunch of them) and tear out every picture you like and set them out. When you come across floors you don't like with darker and natural oak flooring in them, tear those out too. I'd very be surprised if you didn't learn something about your tastes worth knowing.

If you're going with an oak look floor to go with your oak cabinets, it's going to feel too "one note". You need some contrast. I would go with a dark charcoal slate look since it picks up some of the gray tones from the stone on your fireplace. Whether that's core-tec or porcelain (or actual slate), up to you. In this bath picture, below, you can see how the wood works so nicely with slate floors. The wood is a bit lighter than yours but I think you get the gist.

The suggestion for tiger wood flooring with mainly lighter oak with few red oak slats is a good one. That way you echo the warm trim you like but lighten the room. See second photo. Since you're changing the wall color, here's a Houzz article about paints that go with wood trim, cabinets, floors. If you're going to do white walls, you'll want a warm white or greige with warmth to them as below. The problem is your flooring not only has tons of movement in the individual pieces, you then put those in another pattern. If everything else isn't simple it's going to be too much. Stick with subway tile- it's not a trend. It's a classic.

What are the counters and cabinet colors?

The countertops are carrera white quartz, cabinets will be white with uppers having frosted glass doors and wood shelving within. Our peninsula is a blue-green (indigo) and fixture such as faucet, handles, and range hood are matte black.

Go with a back painted glass backsplash in a color that blends with your countertop (white)- go with anything that isn't busy. I wouldn't even add a texture - but then again I don't like pattern on pattern - it gets too busy. At least you can customize your color for the backsplash. JMHO

floor is gorgeous. how about a darker gray subway? larger tiles. not small busy ones.

Knowing your kitchen layout would be helpful. Repeating the herringbone layout in your backsplash would bring some continuity to your room. Consider a white or light grey glass that coordinates well w/your counter top.

Is it too late to ditch the floor? It’s the 2000 lb gorilla bossing everything else around.

If not. Ditch the second color of cabinets, and the contrasting knobs, and the contrasting plumbing. Ditch all of that eye crossing visual overload. Do All White everything else. Either run the counter up the wall, or do back painted glass. Then work in some wood somewhere. It desperately needs warmth.
